Fair point. I've no idea how to do links on this phone (that is not an excuse!).

But I did think that the club had 'officially' said that the Joka had been offered £1m p.a. + a potential £1m in bonuses. However, I could easily be wrong on that. Harris seems to think I am too. If so, then that would beg the question - where did those figures come from then? A leak from a source close to the club, off the top of a journalist's head or something inbetween?

None of the above speculation would detract from the veracity of the Joka's recent statement though.

Predictably pathetic. You are arguably the least considered poster on this entire forum.

So did we offer him £1m a year or not in your eyes? Because the post two below this one seems to make me believe you think we did? Unless you think the 'official' story is a lie?

I just don't see how this all weaves into the Pozzo's lowballing him out of the club. If they wanted rid, they'd get rid. No offer, no nothing. If Sherlock is to be believed, then historically the Pozzo's have no issue disposing of a manager irrespective of what the fans think, so why would they lie to the fans when really they aren't averse to taking the unpopular stance?

Personally, I don't think anyone is lying. I think the Pozzo's offered him the reported £1m a year and Joka truly believed that wasn't enough based on what he's said in his most recent comments.

Why Gino didn't get back to him, perhaps he felt insulted? Perhaps he went in at the highest amount he was willing to pay with others on the market.

In any case, the majority would have wanted Joka to stay. I'm of the opinion that anything above the reported £1m would have been a risky game to play in terms of an untested PL manager if they decided to get rid or he walked.

No! I thought I was being rather clear. I don't believe he was ever offered £1m p.a. + irrespective of whether the source for that claim was official or unofficial. The only distinction would be that if it was unofficial then that would cast at least some doubt on whether Gino, via one of his minions, was responsible for it.

I believe he was only ever made the original 'derisory' offer and that's what his statement says to me. Like you, I agree that he shouldn't have been offered more than the £1m p.a. + but it never got anywhere near that stage because the £1m p.a. + offer was never made anyway.

How much do you reckon he was offered?

Fair enough. I disagree with you but I see how you come to that conclusion. Which is what I was wondering.

Interesting fact - this is the first disagreement we've had that hasn't ended in some sort of threat. You getting soft Kelso?

Any idea how much he is getting from Maccabi?

£452k p.a. or thereabouts. That fits in with everything else.

Kelso, whilst there is nothing you are saying that is definitely wrong, you are speculating, much as others were doing a few weeks ago, and you were very quick to criticise them at the time.

    Double standards, maybe?

    ... a little, ...possibly?

Umm no. I'm clearly referring to pre-Bassini ... maybe you're too young to have been around during the birth of the family club?

Umm, no again. You only have to look at how Merlin Entertainment have dealt with an awful accident to prove business certainly isn't always business.

I've had a quick look through the related Maccabi thread where I thought I'd seen the Joka's new salary reported but can't spot it again just now. Perhaps others can help. What I do remember though is that it wasn't dissimilar to what Quique is getting with us and that both are inbetween the Joka's 'derisory' offer and the supposedly more generous one.

So again it all fits. The Joka has gone to a lower proflle position (despite their being in the Champions League qualifiers) that pays more than the 'derisory' offer he was made here. Quique has accepted a similar offer here to the Joka's in Tel Aviv. None of it would make any sense at all if the Joka had in fact been made a far better offer here and turned it down unless he and his agent are both fools.

He doesn't strike me as that. Neither does he strike me as a bloke who tells anything other than the truth.

Haha ... I'm a partner in a City firm but thanks for the vote of confidence.

To all those ridiculing my concerns, there are ways to make a living where everybody wins; provider, intermediary and customer. The intelligent thinking isn't in copying but in inventing, such that others end up copying. Just because the Pozzo's say jump, don't feel you have to!

Well seeing as you're tickling me so nicely ...

Yes there is if course a degree of speculation in what I'm saying here particularly concerning Gino's role in putting potential porkies in the public domain. But I do think the weight of circumstantial evidence is on my side with regard to the offers made. See #1344 above.

Merlin who? which football club they run? ... Infact don't bother, just tell me what this has to do with the Pozzos whatsoever?

If they wanted to keep their job, they should have done better work, or charged less. Again, we're a business, not a charity.

    Isn't this your ITK comment?

  23. KelsoOrn

Again I've seen it refered to. Can't for the life of me remember where now. I'm not saying it's gospel, just that I remember the two figures being similar.

By family club are you referring to a requirement to keep 50/50 sellers and Richard Short employed until they leave or die?

Because that's not what it means.

Heurelho Gomes says the Community aspect of our club is the best he's ever seen. That, for me, is what our family club is about. Not about making sure that the same old faces get free tickets for shifting ten 50/50 tickets or the club deciding that they can get a better deal on pitch maintenance elsewhere.

What you describe is an 'old boys club', which is as anti-Family Club as you can get.

So the TLDR of Joka's bombshell interview is: they offered me a deal, I felt I deserved more, they didn't make a counter offer and I looked elsewhere for employment.

    Shocking revelations there, then.

It was a direct response to your 'itk' claim, combined with the standard of the pitch at the start of the season.

A bit tenuous mate! My post included the words 'I heard', 'apparently' and 'allegedly' all in the same sentence!

    Not really.

You said yourself that they were let go because he club found a cheaper alternative. Therefore they were either charging too much or not providing work that justified their price. Not a great 'ITK' leap to suggest how they might have kept their jobs.

That is, of course, presuming that this was a business decision and not Gino conspiring to destroy the soul of the club from within his evil lair

Well there are always two sides to the stories.

The Pozzos will probably never come out in public and start a spat.

Time for everyone to move on.

The context of my original post was in relation to the Pozzo's way of doing business i.e. that they were sacked without notice.

In most walks of life if you're unhappy with a service you say so, you might complain and if you're still unhappy you move your business. If though you're dealing with someone you've done business with for 20 years you might take a less confrontational approach, commensurate with the long standing relationship you've developed; a relationship where you may well have supported each other through thick and thin. You'd tend not to sack them without notice.

It's the inter-personal stuff that Pozzo seems struggle with, but then they do say the best leaders have an inclination toward psychopathy!

Yeah but the Pozzos have barely been doing business with them for 3 years, not 20. Plenty of time to evaluate them and take advice so can't be accused of coming to a snap judgement either.

I know my way around employment law very well, and if service contracts are in anyway similar then this firm have either done something wrong that allows the club to cancel the contract without notice, or they've allowed for it in the contract itself.

There isn't any scandal here at all. None. You're looking for it for some reason, but it isn't there.

  34. KelsoOrn

    KelsoOrn Squad Player

Quite. There was nothing revelatory about it at all. It said everything I expected it to say. The only surprise for me was that it was a bit earlier than expected but given that Quique has started back with the players today then that probably shouldn't have been a surprise either.

For me, the Joka's interview, reported last night, was simply a 'statement of confirmation'.

In fairness on this one, there were complaints about the pitch last season both at the beginning and for at least one match towards the end. Bobbly, sandy bits? Against Ipswich maybe?

So, seeing as we play the Baggies on that pitch in our first match back in the EPL in 53 days, when we will want to present a pristine pitch to the world, then maybe the Pozzos justifiably felt the need to act quickly on this occasion and it wasn't the best example of them riding roughshod.
