    Joka's a ****. The Pozzo's are *****. Everyone is a ****.

That cover everything off of the new 'revelations'?

Still only one side of the story.

Joka says he didn't "demand" a major pay rise, that doesn't mean he ask for one. I think he thought he could play hard ball with the negotiations and start high and work down till a deal was agreed, but Gino just thought "nah, would rather someone else for that cash".

So we now have SJ's perspective which just confirms how hard-nosed the Pozzo's are in business.

I heard last week that the firm we've apparently used for the last 20 odd years to maintain our pitches were allegedly sacked without notice because cheaper firms were available. I wonder how many people lost their livelihoods as a result?

I've said before that while of course tough decisions are needed in business, there's a way to do it.

The Pozzo's are steadily cleansing Watford of its DNA and too many people are turning a blind eye.

The Pozzos made a very tough and hard-hearted decision over McKinlay and history showed they got it right, although it didn't feel like a nice way to treat an individual (I appreciate he was well renumerated though).

Now it seems they've made an equally tough and hard-hearted decision with his successor and that there was maybe some truth in those tweets right at the start of the summer from that Spanish football expert, who claimed our offer was derisory.

My suspicion, for what it's worth, is there was probably some truth in the rumour that we had doubts over Joka leading us into the PL, maybe based on his record against the top clubs, because I can't believe otherwise we'd not have fought harder to keep him.

I'm a bit uneasy with the way we appear to treat our Head Coaches but that said I am excited about Flores coming. As with Billy, time will tell if it was a correct decision and I'm confident it will be shown to be so.

To be fair, the pitch was awful at the beggining of the season. Whilst it isn't nice to see people lose jobs that's business unfortunately.

I don't see how we can do anything else when all you have said is "I heard last week...".

If you want people to take notice then you have to provide further information, otherwise it means nothing.

If it was a firm rather than a group of local individuals then, not really no. Could it have been because the contract they had with the club had expired? I'm sure the next time you change your energy supplier or car insurance you won't be thinking of the poor staff at the company you're moving away from.

Pretty clear to me. Gino only ever made a minimal offer. "I felt I was being offered probably half of the lowest wages of a manager in the premier league".

If Gino wanted Quique all along then that's his business. The wrong decision imho but hey, what the hell does my opinion matter? But why not just say so then? Why make the Joka any offer at all?

Gino (via the club) say they offered £1m p.a. + a potential £1m in bonuses and that the Joka was trying to be way more greedy beyond that. I don't believe a word of it. If that offer had been made the Joka would still be with us now. It was simply put out there to make the Joka look the guilty, greedy party and to save Gino a bit of local, temporary difficulty with us fans who two months ago were simply in love with the man who got us promoted.

That disingenuous, manipulative way of doing things (the way it was handled, not the decision) would stink in any business and it stinks at our football club too.

The Joka says he's not resentful. Well I'll reserve the right to be resentful (over the process) on his behalf then.

If they wanted to keep their job, they should have done better work, or charged less. Again, we're a business, not a charity.

But logically it's swings and roundabouts. For everyone losing their jobs maintaining the pitches, others are being taken on by another company to carry out the same work.

So you are effectively treating Joka's word as fact then? Maybe Joka was so angry at such a derisory first offer that, in his own mind, the club simply didn't want him so had already made his mind up to leave. That may or may not be true but to readily accept one reported sequence of events and then dismiss the other elements is no better than Martin Smauels choosing to select things about our club to suit his view.

I certainly feel that the Pozzo's were probably looking at more experienced options and quite possibly doubted Joka may have been the man for the job (they do have form for this), but I also think that the line of all they offered was £450k take it or leave it to be not necessarily 100% accurate either. I see no reason to throw out the £1m + add ons if it wasn't somewhat true. They've never had a reason to dress up their controversial decisions in the past.

I hear that and of course there'll be plenty who come on here regurgitating the usual 'when it's your club you can do what you like' mantra. I'm not saying the Pozzo's are anything like the Venky's, Oyston's, Tan's of this world but the list of unWatford like decisions they've taken gets longer. From the top of my head:
    - Dyche sacking
    - Zola resignation (or was he pushed)
    - McKinlay sacking
    - the match day warm-up guy (can't think of his name)
    - the Rous renaming
    - Joka's contract
    - pitch maintenance company
    - 50/50 sellers

For as long as they bring success people will turn a blind eye. I'm just pointing out my unease at the ever increasing loss of our 'family club' way of treating people.

What family club? ... you mean the family club that were losing money hand over fist and were almost bankrupt? that family club taken over by a crook like Bassini? ... You mean that one?

They've removed lots of things that made us a tinpot Championship club and got us into the Premier League with a brand new stand, top quality players, a manager who's won the Europa League and potentially a record transfer of £7million.

    Get a grip.

Yep. On this occasion I believe the Joka to be telling the truth. His version has the ring of truth and everything he says stacks up. Gino's/ the club's doesn't. What does 'somewhat true' mean? I think there's another word for that.

But you're right. "They've never had a reason to dress up their controversial decisions in the past". This time they did. The Joka's universal popularity.

Obviously if you think about it for more than 2 seconds the Zola one, the Rous one, Richard bloody Short and the pitch maintenance one are ridiculous. The other ones could be argued both ways. Here's an alternate list:

-Continued and more regular AYP meetings
-Support for the 1881 including donating funds towards displays etc
-Renaming the Rous stand after a club legend. Much more fitting than a man who supported apartheid
-Renaming the East Stand after Elton John. Would have been very easy to sell off the naming rights for a quick buck
    -Getting rid of Richard Short
-The incredible support for Nic Cruwys, and I would imagine we'll be seeing some more heartening things from the club on that front shortly
-Continued community events, watch the interviews with the WFCTrust guys
    -Free club coaches on occasion
-Continuing the tradition of the pre-season open day

Do you not feel that's pretty thin ground for assuming the Pozzo's are liars? Especially when you say often that an unconfirmed report should not be taken as fact?

Joka didn't give any figures in his interview. For all we know the 'half the lowest PL manager earns' in his opinion could be the £1m & bonuses as stated.

    -Edited for a bit clarity-

Actually I think modern football is 'cleansing Watford of its DNA' if anything. How many people would lose their livelihoods if we slumped down the leagues and went bust? I doubt you need a pitch maintence company at all in the Conference.

Re: the bit in bold. Please link me to it. Thanks.

Not on this occasion. Sometimes it's OK to take sides if the bulk of the evidence points in one direction as I believe it does here. Other times it's not possible to judge at all and the best assumption then is probably 'somewhere inbetween then'.

As for the figures. Well if the Joka was indeed offered his original £400k p.a + £1k p.w. = £452k p.a. then twice that is £900k p.a. or thereabouts. And from the figures we were bandying about for a month (the lowest of which were due for substantial renegotiation upwards) then again the Joka's claim sounds about right to me.

I'm sure his agent has a much better handle on all this than we do anyway and neither he nor the Joka would have been under the illusion that the lowest paid EPL manager is now on £2m p.a.
