Us meaning US, not the club.

I'm in there a couple of times, so read it all the way through and you'll probably find yourself too. Fair play to the guy, this must have taken quite some time. Makes you wonder if one of us is a Tractor Boy in disguise.

I know this should go in the match thread, but I thought I'd put it here in hopes as many people see it as possible; wouldn't want anyone to overlook which of their posts have been quoted!

Considering the comments taken must come from around twenty different threads from different parts of the forum, I think it's pretty great. If you're still lurking, HarryFromBath - kudos to you.

 

That is a quite incredible piece of work! I often think I spend an inordinate amount of time on here but bloody hell! He presumably does the same thing for every match and must keep updating all his drafts because some of those quotes go way back. Fair play to the bloke - and it was very fair and balanced too unlike some of the subsequent posters who showed every sign of overdosing on turnips and sprouts. Numpties.

Edit: Seeing as we're all looking out for our own contributions - I got one mention - but it was the first one after the title.

It amazes me that he managed to cut through some of the tongue in cheek comments that you often see floating on here.

Do we sound arrogant though? I think we are just hyped by our form since Huddersfield away. Honest assessment of our team when you read it. Perhaps we need to construct similar for the opposition in future?

 

A comment under the article:

Maybe it's because we're top of the league and top of the form table whereas they're in terrible form, particularly away from home. They also have beaten us twice in the last twenty attempts, with just four draws and FOURTEEN Watford wins in that time.

 

My Abdi space and time comment got a mention. Which obviously makes me feel very very special.

A good read. While the events of 2 weeks ago have seen Wolves firmly establish themselves as my second least favourite club, I've always felt Ipswich have a slightly over-developed sense of their own importance so I'm thoroughly looking forward to taking three points off them tomorrow

Although even more impressively, not all the quotes are actually from the Hornet's Nest. A lot of the comments on specific players are in their transfer threads, and he would have had to go to the match-day part of the forum to find comments on older games.

 

Shame that Ipswich fans seem to be taking a growing dislike to us if their forum is any indication, they've always been a club (a bit like Norwich) that I've had a bit of a soft spot for and looked up to (especially during their spectacular season in the Premiership when they nearly qualified for the Champions' League). In some ways, our clubs aren't all that different (although I concede they've tended to play better football than us) - both perceived as unfashionable by fans and media alike, both are from large-ish towns being the only league clubs from our county (until Stevenage got promoted at least), both of us have achieved unexpected success and high league positions with limited resources. Obviously there must be some kind of bitterness because they've been stuck in this division for so long and we've already been promoted during that time and look likely to do it again at their expense, which is understandable I guess.

Brilliant write up

Think Ipswich are a little bitter in their comments underneath the article, they used to give us pelters for playing hoofball under Boothroyd and now do the same thing.

I know a couple of Norwich fans who say they used to wave £20 notes at them and sign about being loaded as well, now they are at pains to big up their 'shoestring budget' squad and attack Norwich for paying big fees

 

Trust me guys try living amongst them, a fairly large minority are convinced they are a Premiership club in waiting and that is where they belong.

Fortunately the ITFC season ticket holders at my local are far more grounded and realise they MM has certainly over achieved given the lack of investment in the team, however the flowing football from the days of Muhren and Thyssen are long gone and whilst they are more than capable of good football all too often the long ball hoofed upfield to Murphy has been their get out.

Fancy a 3-1 win so COYH.

And I think we need to develop a system whereby the length of a quoted post and the position it appears in should be taken account of because as we all know posting goal-difference counts ...... points at the end of the posting season. Our current amateurish classification system is entirely inadequate ...

How much (if any) more money did the club have during the George Burley era when the team was getting to the play-offs every season and playing great football, culminating in finishing 5th in the top flight? Maybe football has changed since then, but it doesn't strike me that you have to be loaded to do well in this league or even above (look at Stoke and Swansea for instance) - you just need a well-run academy and coaching system, with a tactically aware manager who's astute in the transfer market (including with loans) without breaking the bank. Of course football isn't always that simple...
