Trouble is the bloke hasn't got the bottle to do it face to face. Always a bit of sly innuendo. Never face to face. Meister has, understandably, suggested the ignore button to keep the peace. Fair enough. Trouble is I've no idea what it looks like and even if I did I wouldn't hit it. It's a bit of a cop out imho. If I've been o.t.t. in calling him out (and maybe others too) a bit overly feistily I'll admit it and apologise. For me, that sort of stuff is always forgotten the next day anyway. However, I understand for others, that's not the case. My preference is always to start again though.

However, this guy keeps having a go from the sidelines without going head to head and I'm sick of it.

So GoingDown. Here I am ...

I came onto this thread to read about the 'Gems about us from other forums'.

Not two bickering adults (I assume that's what you two are). Cut it out or do it via PM and save us all the hassle please. This seems to happen in every other thread I read now.

He might be a **** for harping on again and again, but stooping to that level won't do anything other than make you look like a **** too.

Hornmeister is right: put him on ignore. I have several people from this forum on ignore and it does wonders for your enjoyment.

Sorry for starting this again everybody. All I was trying to do was to go a 'level up' with the discussion and see it from a more macro point of view.

This isn’t Fessi bashing. I in fact exonerated him with what I just said, that it was actually football that is corrupt, and that you cannot blame a single player. It actually went very well with much of what you said (quoted below), but especially this one: "When the FL change the rules for EVERYONE and start banning people for diving, I shall agree that Fernando is at fault." I think the vast majority of footballers would have done the same, but that doesn't mean I cannot find the situation sad.

So, my only bashing is of the view that many in the football world now hold, that if someone touches the other persons face, that they are entitled to go down, roll around, put one arm in the air, scream etc. I accept your point of view Godfather, although I disagree with it, if you think that the contact was enough to make him react like that. I think that, in reality, he has probably received harder slaps from women looking at his cheeky little face, and probably laughed about it immediately afterwards.

Everyone now looks at these instances and says, oh yes, there was contact, that was fine. This doesn't mean the initial foul wasn't a red card. It means that the player thinks it is okay to exaggerate this contact to get another professional sent off. I think that is a sad reflection of the modern game.

If a child playing a match on a Saturday got touched in the face, even if he had some sort of bruising there, delayed their reaction and rolled around on the floor, most parents would find it embarrassing.

I say the same with diving, and it is disgraceful that players blatantly dive like ****o yesterday. But I class them both as cheating. They are both trying to deceive somebody else to get a decision, even if one was a red card in the first place.

I just think the word 'cheat', has changed (442: "cheating is when a player reacts when no offence occurred"), due to action replays and slow-mo shots, shifting the focus to the only question that now seems to be asked: whether there was contact or not.

I argue more strongly, that anyone trying to flick their feet up, or make a foul look more strong than it is with unnatural movement, should reverse a penalty into a decision the other way. That is far easier to spot. Players are now masters at going down under the slightest contact, and if you could draw a line with anybody who is exaggerating contact, then the referees job would be made instantly less demanding.

If somebody, like Fessi, gets hit in the face, Fessi should be able to clutch his face, stand up straight, and laugh as the other player gets sent off the pitch. He should never have been encouraged to roll around like his face is on fire. In any other sport, you would be ridiculed. In any other part of life, you would be ridiculed. But somehow, in mens professional football, it is accepted amongst everyone, that if there is contact you go down. That is the fault of years of FIFA ignoring that this is creeping into the game, being dinosaurs, taking their easy paycheck and doing nothing about it.

At the end of the day we are fans of a football team, where things are easily forgotten in a couple of weeks or after a few good performances, so you were probably right to support him. But to make petty insults because you do not read posts correctly or do not understand that the argument has moved on, is just a bit childish.

Fair enough Mike. A very balanced post.

I have a similar perspective to 424, I wish the game was different and was fair. But it isn't and far too many times I've seen my team victim to other teams not playing fair. As a pretty passionate supporter, I have become very angry about these situations. As such, I don't care if our team play by those rules now. After the disgraceful behaviour at Bournemouth last season, I decided as such. Pretty sure I said as much in that match thread. It's not going to be a popular opinion, but ****, I've never been one for being popular.

That being said, what I say is my opinion and I've always said that. Its not wrong unless factually proven wrong. It's just different. I might raise an issue when others peddle their own opinion as fact though. No matter how loud you shout or how many times you say it.

I will stand by our players until proven otherwise and feel that we'll probably never know 100% whether Fernando 'cheated' or whatever but as others have said, it is time to move on from this subject, get behind the team on our quest for promotion and hope for the best for one of our striken supporters.

    or,

    - stage 1 - Fessi went down far too easily, poor from him on that occasion
    - stage 2 - Fessi went down far too easily, poor from him on that occasion
    - stage 3 - Fessi went down far too easily, poor from him on that occasion
    - stage 4 - Fessi went down far too easily, poor from him on that occasion

I've a fair idea that stage 5 will not be a whole lot different to stages 1-4

The giveaway is that Fessi's put his right hand to his face immediately and that's not going to happen without contact, the slight delay only came in going down ... of that I'm not sure he needed to but he's of Italian descent so I suspect it might be conditioned in him :) I certainly don't think he cheated.

Miked .... at full speed he's gonna more than feel it if it caught him in or around the eye and apparently the ice pack did go on afterwards.

The video shows Sako touched / struck / slapped Fessi's face. Only those 2 players involved know how hard (or soft) it was. So I'm wondering on what basis you give Sako the benefit of the doubt (by assuming it was soft) but choose not to allow Fessi the same courtesy?

GD, I respect your view even though i don't happen to agree with it in this instance. And, by and large, I like your posts which are often amusing. My only 'beef' with you in respect to the Foresteiri incident is that you seemed to lump anyone who held a different view to you in the 'they are hysterical and want Fessi's head' camp and then seem to have taken any opportunity to make sarcastic digs along the same lines since. Over and out (sorry Molly; will now search random forums for an extreme post on us to keep thread 'on topic' ;)).

When I was colouring in the hand (yes folks it's not really bright red) I was more under the impression of fingertips in the eyes than a slap on the cheek ... it's pretty blurred because it was that quick.

Genuine question - what happens when you put someone on 'ignore' - do you see their name on a thread but no comment or do they just disappear entirely? (I guess if I'm one of those on your list I'll never know the answer to this question as you won't know I've asked it?! :doom:)

When we sold Graham, I knew Troy would do a decent job in the centre forward role at the level we were then, but I didn't foresee him figuring much after the Pozzos arrived. When he was in prison, I posted something along the lines of: "We're in the market for better players than Deeney now anyway."

I'm as bad as those Walsall fans!
