It might be the one of the biggest earners but thats not with Clarkson, May and Hammond, thats other countries using the concept. Most of that won't change

Someone will take it on. Give it 6 months and an amended format and despite what they say people will watch again

Steve Harper (ex Newcastle keeper) was obviously watching the debates last night as he suggested on Twitter that the BBC get Paxman in as the replacement.

It's not actually as bad a shout as it first appears. His interviews are rarely dull or predictable, he doesn't mind being brutally honest and seems to have something of a mischievous sense of humour in him. Basically similar to Clarkson in that he's a bit of an obnoxious buffoon who doesn't really give a toss about keeping to the well trodden path. I doubt the man's thrown a punch in his life either. It could work.

This program turned cr*p a long time ago. Same old tired format. It was long overdue a kind death.

Imho, the whole programme would be much better if it was to kick off with Let's Work Together by Canned Heat.

There, I've said it. You're all welcome.

Can we not get an international loan in from one of the foreign Top Gears? But not the US one that's dreadful.

    Or alternatively

Actually the BBC have a history of their presenters fecking up. Why don't we have guest presenters each week like they did for Buzzcocks and Have I Got News for You. There's plenty out there that are car focussed. Just a few off the top of my head...

    Rowan Atkinson
    Chris Evans
    James Martin
    Guy Martin
    Susie Perry

    etc. etc.

Actually I'd like to see Murray walker present one. In fact why hasn't he ever done the Star in the reasonably priced car? Could be the oldest ever.

Death threats now to the BBC Director General, Tony Hall. There is so much hatred stirred up against the BBC he probably gets these everyday. But there it is 1m signatures on the Clarkson petition and don't they now look a bunch of utter tw@ts.

Putting their name to a large petition makes them look a t***. Really?

Personally, I think the that those who spend their life seeking out, and then getting outraged by minor non Pc transgressions, look bigger t****.

    They should get a life.

Yes putting your name to a petition to reverse the suspension of someone who abused a colleague for 20 mins and then attacked them for 30 seconds does make you look an utter ****. It's the kind of ridiculous partisanship people rightly used to throw at the trade unions.

This has turned out to be nothing about 'PC'. And despite your protestations that you think the BBC were right you still come back to PC again and again.

You signed the petition didn't you?

No, I didnt sign a petition.

But you know that I am not talking about the assault. I am just making a separate point about all those do-gooders, the interfering lefties who jump up and down and get all "outraged" because of minor PC transgressions.

They should get a life and start getting outraged by about serious stuff, such as politicians who want to be our PM, telling blatant lies, instead of suggesting "who cares".

Have to say in this situation the BBC didn't really have much choice in this case. Assault is assault no matter how you cut it. If you or I assaulted a colleague verbally or physically then I would expect to be fired for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking to replace Clarkson, but they would have needed to identify and persuade that person to actually present it. By all accounts they don't by the looks of things so how would it have benefited them by sacking him now? (Chris Evans who's touted by many consistently denies any interest in doing it for one) They aren't stupid; Clarkson and co. brought in millions to the BBC coffers including factoring in production costs so it makes no sense to them to potentially derail one of their largest earners for no damn good reason as it appears RH and JM won't continue without him either.

As I've said before, I like Clarkson's TG persona but what he did is simply indefensible over such a petty matter; only a **** would abuse someone for 20 minutes over lack of hot food.

It is on topic, because people like you get outraged at the minor infringements that Clarkson was guilty of previously, whilst not caring about far more serious matters. In my view, that is more "tw**ish" than joining that petition.

I don't think he should make racist remarks. Do you?

However, I'd never expressed a desire for him to leave the show though. I think he is a great natural comedian and I enjoy watching him despite the silly wind ups. He has a subtle line in self-deprecation which is sadly at odds with the bullying side of him which is winning through.

To try to make this about 'PC' just highlights your obsession and bias. It's you that cannot tolerate the 'other'.

There are lots of things I don't think people should say, including what Clarkson said, off air or in private. But I don't go all outraged and precious about minor matters. I have far more important matters to think about.

If you think the BBC's attitude to Clarkson, or many of Clarkson's detractors has nothing to do with the fact that he refuses to bow to this interfering PC rubbish, then you are naive.

Not the Head of Biscuits and his intrigues again, please. You won't let it go will you?

Clarkson has not been sacked because of any issue concerning 'Political Correctness'. The 'attitude' to him displayed by the BBC has been 20+ years of patronage that has made him a multi-millionaire.

Your source confuses gossip with strategy. Let's hope he's got the biscuits in better order.

Very true. A sign of a massively inflated ego. Personally I would never ask anyone else to do something that I could do myself. I feel uncomfortable at receptions, dinners, functions and meetings when you have people carrying around drinks and food and having to act in a servile manner.

Clarkson unfortunately is not in a minority in the 'celebrity' fold. The demands many of these pillocks make and their behaviour would make most sane and normal people cringe and too often they regard others as untermensch. For example Naomi Campbell.

I see that, only 2 days before the fracas that lead to his sacking, his doctor told him that a growth in his mouth was probably cancer, and that it needed to be dealt with immediately. Due to his filming schedule, he couldn't do that.

Such news is likely to have a profound effect on his state of mind, I think.

But before the usual posters have a go at me, I am not excusing his behaviour on that night.
