Not quite the First Round yet, but thought I'd start a thread on this as the Fourth Qualifying Round draw was this evening. I'm partiulary interested in Maidenhead United's progress as this was where I lived until July! They've been drawn away to the lowest ranked team left in the competition, Willand Rovers (who?), providing they win a replay at Gosport Borough tomorrow night. If Maidenhead do win the replay, then I fancy them to make the First Round for the second year running. Little over 10 years ago (if that) we were playing Stockport County in the Championship, who now unbelievably are in the Conference North, the same level as Maidenhead United. They have been drawn at home to Chester, another fallen league club. Yet another former league club Bristol Rovers, our perennial League Cup opponents are away to Dorchester Town. If Boreham Wood win their replay, they make the short(ish) journey to play Woking, my new local team. Hemel & St Albans are also in the draw. Any other fixtures here that interest anyone? Fourth Round Qualifying draw 1 Spennymoor Town v AFC Telford United 2 Kings Lynn Town v AFC Fylde 3 Grimsby Town v Guiseley 4 Norton United v Shildon or Stourbridge 5 Colwyn Bay or Warrington Town v North Ferriby United 6 Alfreton Town v Lincoln City 7 Macclesfield Town v Wrexham 8 Chorley v FC Halifax Town 9 Barwell v Altrincham 10 Leek Town v Blyth Spartans 11 Stockport County v Chester FC 12 Gateshead v Gainsborough Trinity 13 Tamworth v Southport 14 Dorchester Town v Bristol Rovers 15 East Thurrock United v Bath City or Shortwood United 16 Staines Town or Gloucester City v Forest Green Rovers 17 Dartford v Burgess Hill Town 18 Maidstone United v Welling United 19 Willand Rovers v Maidenhead United or Gosport Borough 20 Witham Town v Weston-Super-Mare 21 Eastbourne Borough v Dover Athletic 22 Weymouth v Braintree Town 23 Leamington or Worcester City v Greenwich Borough 24 Canvey Island v Havant and Waterlooville 25 St Albans City v Concord Rangers 26 Basingstoke Town v Harrow Borough 27 Aldershot Town v Torquay United 28 Kidderminster Harriers v Eastleigh 29 Evesham United v Grays Athletic or Bromley 30 Whitehawk or Chelmsford City v Barnet 31 Nuneaton Town v Hemel Hempstead Town 32 Woking v Frome Town or Boreham Wood
Maidenhead are my local team, with DJ Campbell playing for them although he has a slight injury hopefully they will get past Gosport and then if they don't beat Willand don't deserve to be in the first round
I didn't believe that D J Campbell had dropped as low as Maidenhead (no offence), but I checked on Wikipedia and there it was. if it's on Wikipedia it must be true.
Indeed. The way Wikipedia tells it, he was so disillusioned by this unjust accusation (he was cleared) that he was thinking of giving up the game until a friend suggested as a joke that he join him at Maidenhead. So he did, to rekindle his love for football.
Yeah he's playing for free. Not sure he's set the league alight yet though. Only scored one deflected goal in 3 games I think.
Forrest Green rovers.. former crown jewels of the academy, plus Luke Rodgers had an interesting stint in MLS a few years ago.
If you live in Bagshot, your local team is one of Sandhurst, Camberley or Knaphill you ****ing glory hunter. Personally, I'd pick Knaphill, because it's got the best bar.
No he has scored 3 goals in 4 games although not match fit and with a slight hamstring injury. He is friends with the Maidenhead Manager who Is godfather to one of DJ's children.
I'd like Warrington Town to get past Colwyn Bay in the replay then beat North Ferriby. Can't see it happening though!
In more general FA Cup news I see the FA & BBC are ****ing about with things again. The draw has now moved to a Monday night at 7pm. What was wrong with Sunday after the televised match? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29558089
All 3 are in Combined Counties Sandhurst in Division 1 and the other two in the Premier But you carry on following Joking if that's your bag, but I'd heartily recommend Westfield which is a much nicer club, with a great bar
I could never really follow Woking having watched Slough Town for many years! Big rivals, or were back in the day.
Maidenhead blew it last night losing 3-0. So Gosport should walk over Willand Rovers into the 1st Round proper. Or so you would think... Revised draw: 1 Spennymoor Town v AFC Telford United 2 King's Lynn Town v AFC Fylde 3 Grimsby Town v Guiseley 4 Norton United v Shildon 5 Warrington Town v North Ferriby United 6 Alfreton Town v Lincoln City 7 Macclesfield Town v Wrexham 8 Chorley v FC Halifax Town 9 Barwell v Altrincham 10 Leek Town v Blyth Spartans 11 Stockport County v Chester 12 Gateshead v Gainsborough Trinity 13 Tamworth v Southport 14 Dorchester Town v Bristol Rovers 15 East Thurrock United v Bath City 16 Gloucester City v Forest Green Rovers 17 Dartford v Burgess Hill Town 18 Maidstone United v Welling United 19 Willand Rovers v Gosport Borough 20 Witham Town v Weston Super Mare 21 Eastbourne Borough v Dover Athletic 22 Weymouth v Braintree Town 23 Leamington or Worcester v Greenwich Borough 24 Canvey Island v Havant & Waterlooville 25 St Albans City v Concord Rangers 26 Basingstoke Town v Harrow Borough 27 Aldershot Town v Torquay United 28 Kidderminster Harriers v Eastleigh 29 Evesham United v Bromley 30 Chelmsford City v Barnet 31 Nuneaton Town v Hemel Hempstead Town 32 Woking v Boreham Wood
In the 80s it used to be on Radio 2 on the Monday lunchtime, I remember at primary school during lunch break finding out from the caretaker who we had in the next round.
Having pondered this further, there are actually quite a lot of decent non-league clubs in the immediate vicinity of Bagshot I'd add Staines Town, Cobham, Egham Town and even Spelthorne Sports to that list - plus Chertsey Town, although I've not been there The only one I can think of that isn't worth bothering with is Sheerwater
Much to my surprise Warrington won their replay and now play at home to North Ferriby United. Will be surprised if they win this one, but here's hoping!!! 3rd round tie at home to Watford would be nice!!
Been past/next to Egham Town's ground and it was a bit of a dump. Never been one for Staines Town either or should that now be Staines-Upon-Thames Town? I think I'll probably still follow all the non-league teams around where I used to live (Maidenhead, Slough Town & Burnham) to be honest. Chertsey were riding quite high a decade or so ago, not sure what they are like now though. You could of course include Farnborough/Aldershot and maybe even better Ascot Town. Ascot had a decent run in the FA Vase a season or so ago.
Chertsey were relegated from the Southern League last season. I think they've dropped in to the Combined Counties. I went to Ascot last year for a county cup game. Decent ground and nice people.
Well, well, well. Warrington Town won 1-0 at home to North Ferriby United this afternoon to reach the 1st round for the first time in their history. I went, as I couldn't get to Middlesbrough, and they got a good crowd and defended resolutely. Great scenes at the end of the match. Bring on Scum Town!
Went to St. Albans. Crap game, lost to Concorde Rangers 1-0 and to make it even worse, we were missing our star striker Frendo as he had gone to Spain to watch El Classico!
Went as well - wasn't a great performance as you say. They looked more lively and then held out pretty well.
Full 4th Qualifying Round results below. The draw for the first round proper, when such massive clubs like L*ton join, is this evening on the BBC. Spennymoor Town 2-2 AFC Telford United King's Lynn Town 3-4 AFC Fylde Grimsby Town 3-0 Guiseley Norton United 1-1 Shildon Warrington Town 1-0 North Ferriby United Alfreton Town 1-1 Lincoln City Chorley 0-0 FC Halifax Town Barwell 0-3 Altrincham Leek Town 3-4 Blyth Spartans Stockport County 2-4 Chester Gateshead 4-0 Gainsborough Trinity Tamworth 1-1 Southport Dorchester Town 1-7 Bristol Rovers East Thurrock United 7-1 Bath City Gloucester City 1-4 Forest Green Rovers Dartford 3-1 Burgess Hill Town Maidstone United 2-1 Welling United Willand Rovers 1-3 Gosport Borough Witham Town 1-2 Weston-super-Mare Eastbourne Borough 0-0 Dover Athletic Weymouth 0-0 Braintree Town Canvey Island 0-0 Havant & Waterlooville St Albans City 0-1 Concord Rangers Basingstoke Town 1-1 Harrow Borough Aldershot Town 2-0 Torquay United Kidderminster Harriers 0-1 Eastleigh Evesham United 1-2 Bromley Chelmsford City 0-0 Barnet Nuneaton Town 0-0 Hemel Hempstead Town Woking 2-1 Boreham Wood Macclesfield Town 1-1 Wrexham (Friday)
Correct, when you're one of the big clubs, you only start taking the FA Cup seriously when you're close to the final.
