Congratulations! You'll find that the people with the firmest views on how to bring up or discipline kids are those who've never had any.

My 8 year old hit a major milestone on Friday by going to his first away match. He will learn at some point that we won't always win 5-0 on the road.

Protect their future health - store their stem cells , in the future they will need them, medicine will be driven by stem cell regeneration.

A little over three weeks until due date. Up until now it's been a breeze for the missus - but the last week or ten days has been a rough ride for her. The sleepless nights are already becoming a part of our life...

Mine is 8 weeks old tomorrow. The disrupted sleep doesn't stop! I think my PB is six consecutive hours sleep since she turned up.

I don't mind disrupted sleep, I need very little sleep to function. I'm not saying it'll be easy but equally that's not the part I'm most worried about.

The bit that's horrible at the moment is seeing my missus in such discomfort and being able to do s0d all about it. Bar offering to make her a cup of tea or a hot water bottle I'm not much help.

I feel lucky then, since Xmas she has been sleeping most nights through till about 7am. Last night was rough though, as had her 8 week inoculations which made her ill. First issuing of the Calpol

Does she start maternity leave soon? Seriously, without being a cold barsteward the best thing you can do for her and baby is get yourself nice and rested in advance of the big day as you'll be bugger all use to them if you're dead on your feet from day 1.

Midnight, 3am, 6am give or take like clockwork for us.

Yes she's got a week or so left. I've told her to stop now but she won't - she's not one to sit around at home. It's a battle of an evening to get her to sit for half an hour without getting up to do some ironing, clean something, tidy something...and that was before she got pregnant and the nesting started! So if she was to have too long at home I think she'd drive herself mad. Her job is pretty flexible and so if she needs to call it quits early she can.

    Thank you!

She's a beauty. I think I've slept for a combined 4 hours since Saturday morning but I feel on top of the world - I've never known emotions like it.

MK hospital has a tainted reputation with some but they were amazing for us. Superb from start to finish.

Thanks! It is a huge amount of fun. She's a bit of a night owl at the moment but a huge amount of fun so that is no real issue.

So, the little one is nearly two weeks old and so far it has been the most amazing thing ever. Having a kid was never on our agenda and so this was a big surprise but we are both delighted it's happened this way. She's sleeping pretty well and needing a feed every four hours.

For all the advice we received the very best bit by far was to stay calm - the calmer you are, the calmer the kid will be and that is true.

Interesting to look back on this thread now my daughter is four months old - it seems to have flown by.

Sleep wise, her typical night is that she wakes about 4am for a ten minute feed & cuddle then sleeps through again until after 7am. Last night was a different story, however, and was the toughest night yet. We can see the whites of her teeth coming through so she is in real discomfort. In the end I plonked her in the car and went for a drive for half an hour and that was enough to get her off to sleep but it felt like a long night last night. Also, it combined with a day when my missus was feeling a bit down - we've been lucky on the baby blues front but she's had the odd day of feeling down and yesterday was one of them - so last night was a real battle.

Apart from that it's been fairly straightforward and an absolute joy. We've learnt loads and we are of an age where friends are falling pregnant and asking for our advice. The best piece is to stay calm and the baby will stay calm. Also, we've been surprised by how much equipment we've NOT needed so far. I don't doubt we'll need more as the months and years go by but you can see why so many people fall into the trap of going out and spending thousands when they don't need to.

I noticed one of the earliest pieces of advice in this thread was to not be down the business end at delivery - I had no intention of doing so but in the end I did and I'm so pleased I did. It is one of the most incredible things I've seen and if you worry about it putting you off 5hagging your missus again then forget it. It makes no difference whatsoever.

Daughters are great(have 2). Not at all interested in footy(only match been to is v palace at Wembley so no surprise put off for life). Means I can give them a £5 to spend in Primark on a Saturday and I can watch Watford and have a beer beforehand with the lads.

Glad to hear it's all going well LBH. My daughter is a week short of 7 months now. Crazy how quickly it all goes. She's fine at everything bar sleeping really. All over the shop when it comes to that and me and the wife have accepted we're in for the long haul on it now. A normal night is bed by 7pm, awake by 11pm for a feed, then probably awake again around 3am for nothing in particular before waking by 6am and yabbering in her bedroom wanting someone to come fetch her. We do alternate nights which works well except when the baby flukes a good night leaving whichever of us was off that night feeling a bit peed off. Ours has been teething since about 3 months and only now has two half teeth poking through at the bottom. Luckily she's really into everything and everyone says how good natured she is so we've been able to still go out for an early evening bite to eat or an afternoon at the pub and not have her screaming the place down.

Nice to hear how these 'littluns' are doing. Takes me back - & also reminds me how much I wouldn't want to go back to those sleepless nights! Still, make the most of every 'stage' & moment - don't be in a rush for them to 'move on'. Reading your accounts takes me straight back to when my two were babies. It seems like yesterday and yet the eldest is now 11 and on the verge of starting secondary school. I wish I could press the 'pause' button now!

LBH you can get some stuff for babies/toddlers that you put on your finger and rub onto their gums when they're in pain from teething, can't remember the name of it but it works really well.
