Something due up on Hornets Player 'shortly' about stadium developments apparently.

Surely implies that there's more exciting things happening than just a few seats.

Maybe they've sorted out plans for the SW corner and will start that imminently?

Dunno. Emma Saunders, the HP presenter, posted about it on Twitter. Could just be run of the mill stuff - eg. the SEJ concourse must be being pimped up this summer.

At an AYP last year they said there was plans for a massive new Hornets Shop but no timeline was given.

Don't know why they done build a bigger hornet shop into the SW corner would assume there's plenty of space for it there,

    It won't ever have a 2nd tier.

Correct - Just expanded backwards. Heard they will build a new roof over the existing one and extended the stand backwards & when stand is complete then take the old roof down. Only thing is at the back of SEJ stand at the moment you're quite a distance and height from the pitch. Add another 15/20 rows and it will be like the away end in Newcastle (bring your binoculars)

Heard that it might or might not (or might simply be extended backwards) throughout the entirety of this thread!

So when we play Palace, it will be just like watching football at the Camp Nou.

It's 17 rows now. I don't see any way they could fit another 15-20 rows higher up using the space available surely?

  13. Dennis_Booth

Really? There will only be around another 10/11 rows and at present, you are in fact very close to the pitch. When its built you will be nearer the pitch than the back of the rookery. I'm not sure where your Newcastle comparison comes from, even if we could have another 15/20 rows it would still be about half the height of that.

Sorry to quote the AYP yet again but they said a second tier could and would be added when needed.

Me too - wish they'd just left it on. Checking in to the Vic every now and then used to break up my work day rather nicely.

Comprehensive free WiFi would be good! It also has a payback, in that capturing emails of supporters - you can use it as a marketing tool. I still think buying back the Red Lion pub would be a good idea. Make a new bar in the stables out building and a club shop in the old pub building (which is a very strange layout), and other than match days never had much trade. I reckon a new area for wheelchair users in front of the SEJ, would then free up the corner by the away Vicarage road end for either a new building or another big screen. Still think the big plans will be about extending the Graham Taylor stand when the hospital redevelopment finally frees up some land behind it. The Rookery is knackered now by the flats and both the Vicarage road and SEJ stands are very constrained by access for significantly bigger structures.

Wifi in large stadia is pretty much a non-starter from a technical perspective so I doubt that'll ever happen, but would agree about the Red Lion. This always seemed like a prime location to move a decent sized club shop to, as our existing outlet has always been a bit embarrassing.

I did a bit of research around the internet during last season about this and it appears to be massively expensive to actually do on such a large scale. Man City do it, and apparently well, but they're pretty much the only working example at present and that's because O2 obviously see them as a high-profile partner worthy of investment. Liverpool tried it in just one stand holding 12,000 people and it failed miserably. They were quoted £1m to roll it out across Anfield.

Looks like WiFi may not be an option then! - Oh well perhaps we could simply get better refreshment facilities - Surely selling tea could be arranged.

Saw this in City AM from last week, it raises both technical issues and a fear that it could distract the crowd too:- "EE director of networks Mansoor Hanif, who helped kit Wembley Stadium out with its 4G coverage, said: “I’ve been doing networks for over 20 years and stadium connectivity is one of the biggest challenges we face around the world. Even if you have fantastic coverage, at half time the whistle blows and everyone reaches for their phone. That’s a massive challenge from an engineering perspective. Despite the challenges, American sports offer an insight into some of the benefits on offer. The heart of Kansas is not a place you would typically look to as a harbinger of the future of English football yet the city’s top team, Sporting KC, provides a clue as to how football could evolve. The club installed wifi connections and launched an app letting fans order food and drinks and upgrade their seats, and in-match revenues rose 40 per cent. English football fans spend under £3 per match in the ground during the average season while US sports fans spend about £13. It may be the longer game time but it can also be pinned on the wider uptake of stadium connectivity. “In the US fans get there an hour before the start of the game but in the UK football fans have got it to a fine art of getting into their seats 30 seconds before kickoff and getting out one minute after the end,” Campbell said.

Yet some fans fear the introduction of wifi could kill off the match atmosphere entirely. When PSV Eindhoven rolled out wi-fi to fans last year, their stadium was rocked by protests. Tomorrow’s FA Cup final will offer 4G to Villa and Arsenal fans but views on the benefits are mixed. “Supporter participation is at an all time low anyway,” Raymond Herlihy, from Arsenal supporters’ group REDaction, said. “As soon as you give people another chance to disengage people will take that and we’ll lose the atmosphere.””

An Arsenal fan saying they'll lose the atmosphere? There's more atmosphere on the Moon than there is at Arsenal.

Having 4G now, there does not seem to be an issue now checking scores etc at half time, I have no problems now.

Why didn't they give all the half time scores at, er, half time during last season, except the Championship and the two 3 o'clock Premier**** scores? It would be good to hear the scores from all four divisions as we have since they were put up on boards by a bloke at half time (and you had to look in the programme to see what match 'T' was!). If only to hear how L***n are getting on!

I think they should change the lyrics at the back of the stand to be from 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' when we get relegated.

How many other games do you think will be going on when we play Everton at 2am on a Thursday for Murdoch's benefit to suit the Far East betting markets?

On a similar note.. wasnt there going to be a vote once for naming the access road behind the Rookery Stand? and that 'Yellow Brick Road' looked a cert to win?

I see its named, boringly, 'Stadium Way' on Bing Maps. Was this via a vote?
