Aussies have heart, I'll give them that. Or at least Cahill does. Glad Spain is back to where they used to be...

Edit: Also, I'm really looking forward to Mexico vs Croatia...

Please god get that f**king dinosaur Hodgson out after this tournament, was never the right choice in the first place and has now, following a horrendous Euro's, led us to what looks likely to be our worst World Cup performance in decades.

That said, the likes of serial, international, bottle job performers like Gerrard don't help, but he picked these players.

The last World Cup for Gerrard, Rooney, Lambert, maybe Jagielka and Johnson. Definitely for Hodgson.

Greg ****'s masterplan (or something similar to it) will gain momentum because we can't carry on underperforming from one tournament to another.

From the moment the ref bottled it not sending off that Uruguayan defender I knew we were going to lost.

Against Italy and Uruguay we looked just like Watford. Teams sat back against us and we had no clue how to cope with it, only to be sucker punched.

    Prediction:
Hodgson jumps on the grenade. Hodgson deemed lacking the nous to succeed at this level, fired. A wise foreign man will be brought in to pump up England's chances. This guy will turn out to be Fabio Capello II (I told you he was a moron!) and then the FA will pick another staid and in the know Englishman to run the show... Repeat.

Sadly I think this will be proved true.

Gary Neville will be given the job so the FA can be seen to be interested in building for the future.

Not even too bothered about England going out. Didn't expect us to get out of the group, so it's not come as a shock to see us struggle against 2 teams who are simply better than us. I'll enjoy the rest of the World Cup just as much, it's been an excellent tournament so far.

Oh well, that's it then. Mr HH put money on Chile and The Netherlands before the tournament started so I'm cheering for them now. (& Russia since I got them in the sweepstake)

Who's everyone else supporting now we're out?

  15. El distraído

Chile and Argentina. After that, any of the underdogs.

I've got Argentina in the sweepstake so it's them for me now!

Can't see the winners being anyone other than the Netherlands, Germany or Argentina at this point. The first two look to be in fantastic form, and the Argies are probably the best overall team on paper.

I think I'll be cheering on the Netherlands because they smashed Spain, and South Korea because they are my forum sweepstakes team. I'll also be cheering for Algeria and Ecuador for the Belkalem/Paredes links.

Brazil don't look to be coping with the pressure that well, even though their results have been good so far. They'll need to improve sharply if they want to win it, which is why I didn't mention them above.

I think the complete opposite, I think the winner will be from Brazil, France or Colombia.

Although it probably doesn't pain me as much to say this as it pains you Engerlish, the French look very good. On the other hand, Brazil really doesn't. Tomorrow, Argentina will look pretty good, but it will be against Iran, and they suck. They didn't look that good at all against their first round opponent, despite having the magical mysterious Messi, who scored a fairly pedestrian goal feted globally as the mark of greatness. I'm not sure I believe in Colombia yet. Germany, Holland, France all look the best to me. Croatia, Bosnia, Mexico and Belgium all look very interesting but I'm not sure yet if they are for real.

Nevertheless...WHAT AN AMAZING TOURNAMENT!! I'm loving every minute of it.

Aside from the gloom about England (bet ITV are gutted!) its been an excellent World Cup.

This soooooooooooooo sums up how I feel. I'm really pleased that "Team England" (c) were so focussed on the tournament that they wouldn't release an official song.

Don't get the commentators going mental over what was essentially a step inside and curling shot. Nice but not world class (and nor did it need to be). Same with his goal in the last game. Messi has scored plenty of outrageous goals in his career but these two weren't.

Had the same thought, two good goals but people were massively overreacting because Messi scored them.

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Thing is, Belgium in the Quarters will likely be the first 'really' good team that they face, and possibly without Vincent Kompany.

Plus, both teams Argentina have played have pretty much parked the bus. Against a team not doing that and they might be a different proposition all together.

  29. Arakel

    Arakel First Team

I think this is a point many are overlooking. It's very difficult to play through 10 men behind the ball from the 1st minute (especially when those 10 are making crunching tackles), but the Argies managed to win both games against teams doing exactly that. These are the sorts of opposition tactics that undid Watford under Zola.

Unlike Watford, Argentina have the quality to break through eventually. I actually don't think there is much difference between Iran and an average physical Championship team and I think some of their players would do well in our league.

I thought Iran looked quite decent today overall (much better than I expected, and they should be proud of that performance), but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Argentina were playing against very defensive clog-up-our-end-and-break setups.

Argentina: pedestrian. I have no belief in them.
Ghana: totally underrated. Germany had their hands full. Awesome to see someone else struggle against them for a change...

I just want them out so I don't have to see that huge sodding Malvenas banner behind the goal.

Russia v Belgium and USA v Portugal (with them needing to win really) should be good games.

    Underdogs certainly did well yesterday.
