But people here were saying Assombalonga would turn out to be a Premiership striker.. League 1 is a long way off that...

And getting into the NI squad is no big deal really

I was never quite sure why everybody got so excited about a player that had only ever scored goals at league 2 level and had barely seen him play.

Well I said he'll make a good career for himself, like a number of our former academy players who are playing football league/conference football. I'm not sure what point you're making with him. Are you saying he's crap because he's had a few dips in form because then I go back to my original point that we as Watford fans, having relied on kids so much in the past, shouldn't write people off so early.

I'm not saying he was crap, just saying he might have possibly been very overhyped...

I wouldnt class a good career as a career in league 1/2 or even the conference like a lot of our recent academy graduates..

Better than shelf-stacker, which is their other choice of occupation.

If he stayed and we got promoted, we'd get £60m.

But he'll become better than Bale and be sold for £120 million so we'll get 60 mill anyway.

The main loss is from extra letters on the back of replica shirts.

2 more for Britt today whilst we're about as flat as a pancake going forward as we've failed to score in 5 of the last 7.

    Top business.

£1.5m + 50% sell on fee for a kid who scored about a dozen goals in League 2

We would have been stupid to turn that down

Credit to Boro though. They scouted him well and got more than what they paid for.

Exactly, and if Acuna was playing for Peterborough I guarantee you he'd be scoring just as many, likewise if Britt was here, we'd be saying that we were stupid for turning down the money for a player that can't get onto the pitch.

Even Joe Garner scores goals in the First Division. Britt is not yet a Championship striker and with the current general state of the team he would be no help.

What!?! A side lacking pace up top and someone to score a few goals aside from Deeney and he'd be no help at all?

1.5 million and a 50% sell on for a player who hadn't scored at Championship level was a good offer, even before you consider the buy-back clause. Regardless of what he goes on to do, I still think selling him was the right decision based on what was known at the time.

Britt would have stayed if we'd signed Tommy Smith in the summer. FACT.

Britt will have a long and successful career as a championship striker. Mensah and Ikpeazu will have long and successful careers in the premier league.

The club kept the right players and sold the right player, and got a decent deal out of it.

How do you know? Please share your inside knowledge.

We were reluctant but still let him go because we couldn't offer him regular football.

Probably the views of the coaching and management staff who are employed and paid to make these decisions. With respect I would prefer to give more credence to their professional opinions than yours.

Even though it has turned out to be a God awful decision?

If he'd gone on loan, he'd either be worth at least double what we sold him for now, or providing the goals in the 2nd half of the season to keep us in the Championship.

Nonsense. If he'd stayed he'd have played about as many minutes of football as Acuna, scored zilch, and be worth sod all.

No way is he worth £3m at the minute, you are forgetting he is yet to score in a higher league than League 1.

I will agree he is having a great season, 15 goals already, but to say he is worth £3m now is absurd

Maybe not 3 million just yet but Bristol City paid Crewe 2.5 million for Maynard 5 years ago so come July 2014 I wouldn't be that surprised if someone paid 3 mill for Britt.

Let's say he gets sold for £2m this summer. That means we got about £2.5m for him overall. Keeping him really wasn't worth the risk.
