Jst wanted to say how brilliant Anya has been recently, especially against Wednesday. Rwb, lwb, even a left back in a flat back four for the second half against Wednesday. He is playing out of position and doing well. Ok, he isnt the best defensively but he offers so much going forward. He made really intelligent runs and beat the Wednesday full back every time he ran at him. Keep it up Ikechi, you're doing brilliant job!
Completely agree. LWB is the most awkward for him, but even there he's played well. On Tuesday he was my MOTM, like you say, really intelligent runs and was excellent on the ball too. He's improving all the time and especially since he's come back considering just about everything is new to him, he's been triffic.
Agreed. He's knickled down and learnt the game in the Championship. I think he's a future Lloyd-esque hero. I hope he stays permanently.
I don't think he was in Zola's thoughts too much until recently. I think his performances against Forest and Brum really caught the eye. I thought he did very well in the first half against Wednesday, when others were not playing quite so well. He has one great god given asset, and that is his pace. He is improving on other areas of his game, and it's good to see him progress as the season's unfolded. If he keeps this level up, he should earn himself a permanent contract at the club in the summer.
My summary of Anya so far has been 'good intentions' (and that is meant in a positive way) He has a big heart and, although not everything he tries comes off, he certainly appears an asset, being able to play in a variety of positions and contribute to our goal tally too. I've even almost forgiven him for THAT miss at Wolves! At least he was in a good position to miss it...
He can't tackle but I imagine him being really annoying for a winger, you get past him and 5 seconds later he's floating around you again like some sort of annoying insect.
I loved the overhead flicks he did at the home in the Derby game, just a shame he cant finish with his left foot.
He's not the best defender but to a certain extent, that doesn't really matter. As Carlos said, even if the winger takes it past him, he'll be right next to him again within seconds. I also like that he doesn't dive in or make too many rash tackles, like a certain Mr. Pudil.
was that danny pugh - footballer is not the right word for him. anya must be dropped immediately for FF the new super wing back striking midfielder.
It seems recently to be a good outlet for the players aswell, they seem to be looking for him and playing the ball to him more.
He offers a great option in the box that Pudil/Cassetti do not. Tackling is a dying art in football, but as someone pointed out just by being in the way, Anya does a job. For a small wide player Anya tracks back well compared to those we have had in the past.He is a great squad player and I am happy to see him start or be on the bench. I met him at a few parties when he was at Wycombe, was a really nice bloke, unlike most of the rest of his teammates! None of them were close to making the grade at pro-level.
Fair play to Anya, I said I wasn't convinced by him before Tuesday but he's made me look a right t*t, he was fantastic even at left back. Still relatively young and it'll be interesting to see whether Zola wants to keep him on next season.
I disagree that he played well against Forest. I don't think he played well at all. In fact he may as well not have been on the pitch. In fact, he wasn't on the pitch. Home or away.
