“I’m sorry, I only know Argentinian music,” he says with a smile.

Wow he really doesn't know what he has been missing out, that must be like finding out the internet exists.

The converse would be equally true. There is great music from around the world not just the popular chart tripe that you get now. There are plenty of excellent Argentine bands too like Attaque 77.

WW he would be better described as the Argentine Jimmy Johnstone. Despite cultural ties there are distinct cultural differences between the two including differences in intonation even in the Spanish spoken.

Plenty of British bands end up in BA or Rosario as well. I don't think SEJ made the trip however.

I remember looking at the above when FF was being mentioned as possibly joining us and not being very impressed, because as you can see he has never been a prolific GOAL SCORER!!! So all this talk about him losing his touch since signing permanently is a load of bollix as far as I am concerned!!!

Having said that, I have to say FF proved me wrong as I have been very impressed by him since he joined at the start of the season, in every way except as a finisher!!! He is great at running at teams, he tackles back very well, he has a great engine, which in my book makes him a midfielder, not an out and out striker!!! In fact if you look at the stats above it says he is a 2nd striker, which I assume means more of one who plays in the hole behind a front two creating rather than scoring.

Don't get me wrong, I am very pleased he has signed for us and I think he is a great player, but he is not a prolific GOAL SCORER; and unless GFZ can change him he never will be IMO!!!

Just one more thing, I just wonder if he would make a good wing back, as I think he would be better than Anya in that position?

He is still young and has time to develop, especially his finishing. Over reaction to a 20 min spell. C'mon cut this crap out.

His finishing ability is poor, there' no denying that but he gets into some very good positions to miss in the first place. How many chances did Vydra carve out last night? I cannot remember one, but FF came on and got himself into two wonderful positions and should have should a couple of goals.

This tells me that he has the potential to be very good in front of goal but he needs a massive amount of work on his composure. I think that's all it is with him. He wants to do well so much and that creates an anxiety which makes him snatch at his chances.

People should not be overly critical of our players, even the players themselves feel like they've lost the match. This is all wrong and the mindset has to change before Tuesday. There's no time in feeling sorry for yourselves. Last night has gone we must move on. 11 games to go, and I can certainly make a case for us winning the next four. If we do that then this result will merge into the best run of results we've had all season.

A point at Wolves is still a good result. We took something from an away match which still puts pressure on the others. Hull HAVE to win today to overtake us. Leicester HAVE to win to take advantage of our slip up. This puts pressure on them also. Do not start thinking all the other teams around us will win just because we don't.

Forestieri will not make a good WB ffs.

He's a second striker, a second striker doesn't score bags of goals.

I have seen Fernando from the time he was at Boca to the odd game in Italy and for Italy's representative sides.

He was always and will be an attacking midfielder, an enganche though not a classical Argentine one because he is unable to dictate the tempo of a game. To be perfectly honest he hasn't really pushed on much in the last five years.

Still a great dribbler, works hard and can sometimes produce moments of magic but the consistency and developing football intelligence hasn't kept up. Nor has his ability to finish chances. Still if he keeps practicing he can make himself into a very good player.

Zola should just put an arm around his shoulder as with the rest of the squad put last night's result out of the memory and focus on next week's critical two home matches.

One thing for sure I can see from those stats aside from the goals is his lack of games. I mean of the caps you have shown against Watford, how many have been starts? I would be surprised to see more than 5. Is this the case with the other teams? Shouldn't he be looking for 40+ a season?

Confidence and game time I think is key to unlocking FF, he needs a couple of games starting and a couple of goals to kick start on with.
He's not a super sub though that's for sure, he seems to lack that composure necessary.

I agree with most of the above except the WB comment!

He has fantastic potential and if he can just improve his finishing he'd be our very own MiniMessi.

My thread is not just about last nights performance it's about the overall performance of the man since he has been with us, and as I say in my thread opener, despite the doubts I had about him when I first saw the stats shown in my original post, I am actually pleased we have signed him!!!

HOWEVER HE IS NOT, AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL BE AN OUT AND OUT STRIKER unless GFZ pulls off some kind of miracle, as quite frankly he makes Luthers legendary misses, look like close calls, but at least Luther still managed to knock a fair number in, but I doubt FF will ever score more than a handful of goals a season. As for him being young, he aint that young, he's 23, so if he hasn't cured his "gips" in front of goal by now, I doubt he ever will, unless as I said GFZ pulls off a miracle?

Therefore I tend to agree broadly with smudger, he is an attacking midfielder and should be played as such, and I still think he could make a good wing back/wide player, or play down the middle, I wouldn't play him in the holding role though.

It's interesting you mention Luther, as when I see FF missing all the chances he has done to date, I actually thought back to Blissett. Luther did miss loads of chances but by sheer volume of being there in the right place at the right time he scored plenty of goals. This is the hardest thing to do, is to sniff out chances. Joe Garner just could not do it, he would go match after match and not one single chance would present itself to him. Forestieri does sniff out chances, and because of this I believe he will score goals regularly in the future.

All FF he needs to do is work on his composure in front of goal. Nearly everytime he misses he hits the ball too hard and skies it. Sordell used to do this on a regular basis too. This can be ironed out and rectified with good coaching, especially on the mental side.

Now I cannot believe you thought Blissett was not an out and out striker?

I don't entirely disagree with what you are saying, and I would dearly love it if he suddenly after all these years became a prolific scorer. All joking aside maybe some sort of psychological help is the answer?

In the meantime I don't think we can afford to play him as a 2nd striker, there are only so many "barn doors" we can afford him to miss; better to play him as a goal creator in midfield.

I think you get the the Luther analogy though ;)

Tommy Smith couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo until he was in his late twenties, when all of a sudden he suddenly found out how to finish.

I'd say Fernando has a lot more to offer than he ever did.

At the moment he appears to be a luxury player...there more for what he 'might' do rather than what he actually does. However, I believe he will develop into a very good asset for us in time. Hopefully working with Zola will improve his decision making and his composure in front of goal. I think he struggles a bit too by not getting a run in the side, being restricted mainly to cameo appearances from the bench. In fact his entire career so far appears to have been stop start, a handful of matches here, a loan spell there. Give him time. He's one of ours and needs patience and support.

    In a 4 4 2 formation he'd be a winger. We don't play 4 4 2 so he doesn't fit in. Thought this was pretty obvious?

i funk ff should go in goal, nimble fingers ( the bread and butter of a good keeper) and dives around with the flexibility of a famous advertised credit card.

Still don't think Fernando and Troy works up front, both tend to drop deep and get involved in the build up meaning there is nobody stretching teams behind. Would still like to see FF and Vydra given a go at some point if Troy picks up a knock.

On the point about Fernando's finishing, if there is anyone who can help him then Zola is the man.I expect him to be a star next season whatever league we're in.

He snatches at chances, once he calms down and tries to slot them in rather than blast them then he will bag a few.

I don't agree that he has lost his way since signing permanently - he wasn't exactly turning in 9/10 performances week after week when he was on loan.

With Abdi suspended on tuesday - i would play him in front of battochs and Shalamar but behind Vydra and Deeney. With Cass and Pudding at wing back - perfectly secure and potentially dynamic

Abdi is not suspended. He has to get to 10 yellows now at this stage of the season. He's on 5.
