If we're within the rules they can't really although I'm sure they can move the goalposts around a little, just forget not that all the big PL clubs have their own feeders which should give us some leeway. I imagine that if there's going to another big kick-up it won't be before we're in real danger of qualifying for Europe.

I'm not keen on all this.

I know it is maybe just an extension of what is already happening and indirectly it may help us, but smoke and mirrors makes me uneasy. I also don't think Rennes should miss out.

I prefer simple ownership of players, where sell-ons are honoured in the spirit they were intended.

I hadn't thought about it like that - it would be like us selling Deeney to Granada for free then them selling him on to QPR/Leicester/Everton whoever, so Walsall lose out on their sell on

I'm sure we would be outraged if another teem did it to us, and it may infact prevent clubs from selling to the trinity?

We have done it to WBA over Ellington.

    Agree with this

Also, what motivation for Porto to play ball if/when it comes to selling the player if they only have a 20% stake? Maybe it won't come into play, but they will have a part to play in whether he plays games or doesn't, in order to bump the price up. Seems messy and ungentlemanly.

I agree in principle, but often it isn't that simple. If Brahimi was dead set on move to a bigger club, and Porto couldn't afford his full transfer fee, then the alternative would have been a long term loan with a fee attached. If this had been the case then Rennes would have been left with nothing, rather than the 1.5 million they've received. As I understand it the transfer was designed to keep Brahimi in the Pozzo network, not to rip off Rennes.

The majority of Porto's squad are owned by investment funds, so they stand to gain as much from playing Brahimi as any of their other players. As the majority stakeholder of Brahimi's contract the Pozzo's fund can force a sale if a "suitable" bid is received, which is likely to have been agreed in his contract.

It is messy, and it hasn't done Porto any favours over the last ten years - they would be one the richest clubs in the world had they bought all of Falcao's/Moutinho's/Hulk's contracts.

They probably wouldn't have been able to afford the those players contracts on their own though

Third party ownership is common in Portugal, Brazil, Argentina etc, you'll find it harder to find a player who isn't.

Agreed, it is basically a mechanism to keep players in the spotlight and stop their value from dwindling.

Ruben Rochina arrived in Granada yesterday (Actually he will be today in a pre-season match) and John cordoba is almost signed (fixing some details with the club)

Now team will be completed as soon as we sign a good central defender and a left winger.

    Possible line up:

    ________Oier
    Nyom, Sign, Murillo, Sign
    Javi Marquez, Fran Rico
    Piti____________Rochina
    _________Arabi_______
    ___Cordoba__________

Interesting study today by italian Sky Sport, that shows the 20 clubs that earned more moneys selling and buy players in the last 4 years and the 20 clubs that lost more. The result is that Udinese is the european club that gained more moneys, beating every other club, even the sheik-owned ones. Unfortunately for England, in the worst 20, 8 of them are english :/

Armero joins Milan on loan. Fully expect since he's not being sold he's being "kept" for us, if we reach the prem.

    Edit:

Just seen it's a loan with the option to buy :(

Bit of an odd one, Internacional have loaned him out to Universidad De Chile. Seems weird, not as if they're sending him out on loan to develop (considering he's 25).

??? Where did you read that?
Searching recent news on him everything says he's an Inter player, very appreciated by the fans, and that they are trying hard to keep him even if they received several offers after his good WC.

Actually I think they're just confused about where he is, I think they believed his move from UDC to Internacional was a loan, and now the loan is ended, hence him returning to UDC.

I think tranfermarkt data-base is somewhat confused by the complex ownerships of some south-American players, where sometimes their contract is owned 20% by their current club, 15% by another club, 25% by player's agent, 20% by a bank, 10% by an investment fund, 5% by player's mother-in-law, 5% by player's landlord as advance on the rent.
Their info about Aranguiz were always quite inaccurate and didn't mention Udinese, but he certainly was a player of ours, although I don't know in which percentage.

Granada CF still looking for a central defender (Maybe Gimenez from Atletico de Madrid on loan) and a left defender.

And this its quite an off-topic. But one of the users of the most important Granada CF forum (forogcf.net) just made the renovation of Watford lockers floor. This:

Very snazzy Rojo. Gimenez would be an absolute steal. Immense potential. Hardly looked out of place at the World Cup for such a youngster and showed up Lugano badly.

    Latest news.
    OUT (strong rumour, almost certain):
Nico Lopez on loan to Verona, with option to buy for 18M€ and a clause which says Udinese can nullify the "option to buy" paying 5.5M€ to Verona.
Absolutely a good deal, given that apparently Nico wanted to go there.
    - if he does a bad-to-good season, Verona will not use the option to buy and he'll come back next season.
    - if he does a very good season and his transfer value rises to 18-25M€, Verona will probably buy him for a very good sum for us
    - but if he does an exceptional season and offers come from European big teams, we'll not cry while Verona sells him for 30M€, because we may block their option with 5.5M as thanks for training him and then WE sell him for 30M.
Everyone happy. Lopez plays where he wanted to go. We'll not be robbed (at all). Verona will get a fair amount of money if Lopez plays a good season, so he's not likely to rot on bench.
    Great!

    IN (official):
Lucas Evangelista bought from Sao Paulo (and from the other club and the investment fund which held parts of his contract, South-American contracts are a mess sometimes).
19 YO advanced midfielder who can play also as left or right winger. Already 3 caps and 1 goal in Brazilian U20. 4M€.
Amusing that until 24 hours ago Verona seemed to be the club close to signing him.
    Great!!!

Sherlock, any players we might get before the end of the transfer window?

  34. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

Well, no idea really, but I don't think you'll be overwhelmed by Udinese's players in last transfer window's days. WFC's team seems quite OK so more players might just be bad for balance.

That said, Lucas Evangelista might be one, according to Giaretta's words (he's our Sporting Director): http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/udinese/?action=read&idtmw=588201
We have already used our two slots for new extra-EU players, so Evangelista might go on loan to Spain or England.
But, if true, I'm afraid that chances are 90% Granada 10% WFC for a number of reasons:
    - language barrier,
    - less "shocking" difference between Liga's and Brazilian football rather than discovering cold tuesday nights in Championship,
    - WFC roster already quite crowded in attack,
    - most important, I'm not sure he could easily receive VISA for English football (not a full international!). Much easier in Spain I think.

Of the others, Zielinski seems to be on the way towards a loan to Empoli. The club probably would have liked him at WFC, but it seems he preferred to stay in serie A.
    Maybe Badu? Who knows.

They made a quite good deal taking Iturbe from Porto on loan with option to buy for 15M€, then he had a very good season and they bought him for the said 15M€ July 1st, and then sold him for 22M€ to Roma July 16th.
    http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/juan-iturbe/transfers/spieler/81455
They're obviously trying to do it again.
