Transfer news and rumours from Udine and Granada

Not sure if this thread is best in "Pozzo's Place" or in "Transfers, Rumours and Contracts".
Anyway, it's obvious the three teams are somehow "communicating vessels" and any transfer one of them does may have consequences on the others.
A buying of a new player may mean another one would be destined to bench and could be better suited for a loan or transfer to the other teams of the trinity, where he could be more useful.

So I'll try to collect here news and rumours regarding Udinese transfers, with particular attention to possible consequences for the "cousins".
I hope our friends from Granada will do the same regarding Spanish news.

For a more comprehensive list of Udinese's transfer rumours you can check http://www.udineseblog.it/index.php/udinese/calcio-mercato.html. Google translator (link) doesn't do a great job, but should be enough to understand what's going on.
Just don't mind the comments you may read on that site, as it's full of spoiled moaners who think Pozzo should have strengthened the team to win Serie A, instead of selling players and "waste money" on Granada and Watford (yes, they have a very clear idea of what a sound budget and a long term investment are!).

For a more friendly exchange of ideas with Udinese's fans (mostly quite more rational), you can visit the forum www.zetaboards.com/directory/?p=jump&s=4&v=6056822 where there's a section devoted to Watford and Granada.

Good idea for a thread. Are there any Udine players you're aware that might be coming to Watford in January?

I was thinking about this earlier, as Udinese aren't doing aswell as last season and Watford have taken a lot of their players, is there much resentment from Udinese fan towards Watford?

As first rumour (almost a fact really): Floro Flores (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Floro_Flores) is a good striker but never impressed at Udinese and was often on the bench. He did very well in a season on loan to Genoa anyway. This year he failed to impress in his loan to Granada, but luckily Genoa's owner still thinks highly of him so a deal was found: Flores to Genoa in exchange for 50% of Alexander Merkel (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/alexander-merkel/profil/spieler_86926.html) and of Alhassan (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/masahudu-alhassan/profil/spieler_172338.html).

That quite a good deal! A 29 player who was noticed mostly for being quite troublesome, for the halves of two very promising 20-years old. Merkel impressed a lot in his games with Milan AC and went to Genoa in the deal for El Sharawi, but found not much space in Genoa's module.

Alhassan will certainly remain on loan to Novara until end of season. Flores is already at Genova and Merkel is already training with Udinese, but his final destination is not sure. Udinese has too many midfielders right now so, depending on other possible sales, Merkel might stay in Italy or go on loan to Granada (more likely) or maybe WFC, if needed there.

Well, we're going OT immediately but no problem.
The spoiled moaners are everywhere; no doubt you'll have you own soon. And they're usually among the most active "keyboard warriors".
So in general I would say no, most Udinese's fans are not very happy for this season but wouldn't change Pozzo for any other owner.
But on several forum and websites you may find many who despise the Pozzos because they didn't "push a little further" to become a "big team". The same ones will see WFC and Granada cousins not as "welcome relatives" but as "Oh sh.t, another mouth to feed?".

Well hopefully if we get promoted to the Premiership, they will realise how much money we can earn for the Pozzo trinity and how beneficial we can be to Udinese.

  7. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

    Most of the fans will.
About the "spoiled moaners", honestly there's no reasoning possible. I've read many times comments like "We should have kept Sanchez one more year to try for a win in Serie A".
How can you have a rational debate with people thinking Udinese (with its size) can refuse an offer of 26+M€? And that a 22 years old player, offered to play for the strongest team in the world with a very much higher salary, would answer "No thanks, I'll stay at Udinese, please come again next year"?

Nothing official yet, but it seems almost sure that Pablo Armero (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/pablo-armero/profil/spieler_73786.html) will go to Napoli on a payed loan with option for buying 50% at summer.

The other player who almost certainly will go is Barreto (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/barreto/profil/spieler_23345.html) and Udinese apparently is hard trying to give him to Pescara in exchange for 50% of the promising Columbian Juan Quintero (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/juan-quintero/profil/spieler_122582.html), with the idea of Barreto going to Pescara immediately and Quintero coming to Udine in summer (after Pescara completes tranfer, as he's on loan from Atlético Nacional with option to buy).

For inbound transfers, rumours about Junior Malanda from Belgium (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/junior-malanda/profil/spieler_129593.html) and Faouzi Ghoulam from Saint Etienne (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/faouzi-ghoulam/profil/spieler_126656.html, but he'll be with Algeria at ACON).

I wish Watford owned 50% of some players. We'd probably end up with the wrong 50% though, like Stuart Downing's right foot.

Any chance of Watford getting this Junior bloke!

  12. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

No idea, probably depends on possible other inbound players.
Certainly, given his usual positions and if he's half as described in http://www.tottenhamhotspurs.tv/forum/transfer-news/30584-junior-malanda.html, he might be perfect to improve WFC midfield defensive capabilites, or as a substitute CB for Hall in emergencies.
It might well be possible that Udinese is after him with an eye for WFC. Cannot rule that out, given the importance of the prize for Pozzo. We will see, right now it's just an unconfirmed rumour.

  13. willia6691

For me the two areas we need most improving is a strong CB as Hall is looking a little injury prone! And a real enforcer in def mid. I'd love this guy to be for us. Although I do feel guilty that as a Watford fan we eye up your squad to improve ours, but I guess they are doing nothing for their career or their value sat on the bench!

Well I don't see that as a problem, it all stays in family! ;)
WFC is a "project" and an investment for the Pozzos but IMHO also for Udinese. If WFC goes up and succeeds in staying up, it will become the "rich relative" in the family and it will probably be my turn to watch if there are WFC transfers made for the benefit of Udinese.
I just hope at that time there will not be angry WFC fans complaining about "wasting money on foreign teams". :doom:
    ;)

I really like some of Google translate's efforts on that site.

Who could fail to recognise this translated snippet of action from the Brighton game:-

"The joy (of Brighton) for the draw did not last long, because within three minutes Matej Vydra is unleashed.

At 68' primed by Hogg, the Czech striker strikes Kuszczak with a shot that hits the leg of a defender to create a chip that slips behind the door.

    Brighton-Watford 1-2."

And how we celebrated when that created chip slipped behind Kuszczac's door.

It's very nice to read the interest that Udinese and Granada fans take in us.

I would say that given most of the ***** that sit around me, within three years there will be lots of complaining about us wasting money on Udinese.

That's t he problem, we have been saved by The pozzo family using udinese players. I guarantee some will have a short memory.

LOL, on Udinese's fans forums there's a sort of war between the "Pozzoboys" (grateful for a long time great management) and the "POVI" ("POzzo VIrgogna!", sort of "Pozzo shame!").

If all goes well and sooner or later you go up, certainly you too will have a similar "war", with your own POSHA crying "Why did we sell Vydra to ManCity/Chelsea/whatever for 20M£? We should have kept him here to try to win Premier!!!"

    ;)

I give you fair warning Sherlock, that I will be the first one to cry out if Watford settle for being a top 10 Premier League team and don't show any ambition of becoming the new Barcelona.

Good shout H36, linked back to Brazil, but is an anchor man. What's happened to him Sherlock? Not ready yet? I've been impressed by him when I've seen him.

"Pitbull" Willians? Yes, I had almost forgotten him.
Seemed quite promising at the beginning, but showed a foot unworthy of a Brazilian and fell out of grace while Allan began to shine.
He might be a good choice for WFC as defensive midfielder really, but it seems he has still quite a good name in Brazil and it looks like he'll be sold back there for a good price or for other players.
I'll let you know any news about him.

We've been linked with Andrea Mazzarani, currently on loan to Novara from Udinese

Edit: he was on loan last season at Novara

I'm always amazed at discovering how many players Udinese has around the world.
Source http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/udinese/?action=read&idnet=dHV0dG91ZGluZXNlLml0LTM3NzA says Charles Aranguiz from Universidad de Chile should stay 6 more months in Chile to try to win Copa Libertadores with his team, then he'll go to Udinese.
Udinese (from web search) owns 50% since 2010 but left him in South America to gain experience. "Unfortunately", Udinese payed 2.2M€ for the first 50% but to gain full property it will be a quite more expensive 4M€, especially as the player was put in the "best 11 in South America 2012" (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equipo_Ideal_de_la_Copa_Sudamericana).

Andrea Mazzarani is another example of how many we have around: simply never heard of him. It seems we have dozens of players around on loan. From some sites, he seems to be a decent right foot attacking midfielder who can also play at right wing, so I guess he could be a back up for Cassetti. Seemed promising but was blocked by some injuries. Well, the same (injuries during previous season) was for Vydra and Geijo so, I trust Pozzo's scouting network and think it's unlikely he's not somewhat good.

He was a pretty decent passer of the ball Aranguiz when he was with Quilmes who were a very poor side at the time in the Apertura/Clausura. Great subtletly to some of his passes and pretty decent vision in the middle of the park.

    Know anything about this Sherlock?

"Watford linked with Florian Hartherz, Gino Peruzzi, and Tomá* Kalas, although all three are unlikely.

Also Patrik Svoboda is there for a trial with a possibility of a full transfer.

Also Alessio Romagnoli is to be signed by udinese and loaned straight out to watford."

    Romagnoli is italian I believe.

I've heard great things about Kalas, but assume this would only be a loan, as he's contracted at Chelsea until 2017. No clue about the rest of them.
