It's a very fair assesment of the game.

 

I enjoyed this, Eddie Gray is a decent pundit, had the balls to admit that it was maybe a red after saying immediately after it was a yellow.

 

Looking at the card I don't think there was any malice in it poorly timed and a bit crude but it's not like it was a two footed studs up challenge.

 

Especially with the other bloke constantly asking him leading questions, he does very well to remain fair

 

It a pity the BBC cannot produce such honest and objective analysis of matches!

Agree, he was just late. However I don't think the FA will overturn the decision as it's not clear that it shouldn't be a red card.

 

It was a dangerous challenge that deserved a red. Risking the safety of the opponent and all that.

As for the Red Card, I have long believed that if a player is just too quick for the tackler, which Vydra was, it should not be a card at all, it should just be a foul, end of.

IMO cards of any colour should only be given out when there is some intent of foul play by the tackler, not because his opponent out wits him making his tackle a little late!!!

Saw this coming to be honest. It was a debatable red card, but isn't the appeal system in place to only recind seriously wrong decisions? As it was a touch and go call, in my opinion, it was not clearly wrong so would never be taken back.

 

The point is that if you go in and don't know whether you are going to get the ball or not, you shouldn't go in. That sort of tackle is the sort which injures players and that's why it was a red card and rightly so.

Eddie Gray's analysis is an embarrassment to most established pundits. Very impressive, especially given that the questions he was getting asked were often somewhat slanted. One of the big channels should take a look at him, if they have any common sense.

Having seen the reverse angle on the penalty, it's pretty clear that it was really a dive rather than a penalty. The player was already going down long before Ekstrand even touched him. That explains Ekstrand's reaction when the penalty is given; he was more than a bit annoyed.

 

And Warnock wanted Elkstrand sent off. Hmmm.

 

There are some instances where i agree, if the player is a fraction late and catches the player, use some common sense and a free kick is all thats necessary. But this tackle wasnt one of them, not only was he (very) late but he went flying into the ball with all of his body weight. He didnt need to come off his feet, the only reason he did was because he knew he was struggling to get there in time.

 

Having seen the goals again from different angles, Vydra's first has just edged it for me again over Abdi's low drive. Like the way he fooled Kenny into diving early and then smacked it into the other side. Very cute.

As for the commentary, I'd like to know why ever commentary team seems to need a broad Scot playing the Hansen sidekick role. Leicester had one last week on their commentary with a good sprinkling of "aye" and "wee" this and that. It's not as though the Scots are any good at football, so I don't know why their opinions are valued so highly.

I read something about surveys revealing that the Scots accent is the most well-liked by people all over Britain. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

You certainly hear them in plenty of the charity TV and radio adverts - "Can ye nae spare a few wee poonds?"

While the Scottish national side have had little succes and their domestic games is somewhat two (now one) sided they have contributed greatly to the game South of the border & further afield.

The football league was built on the backs of Scottish footballers and they have been an influential presents ever since.
Scotsmen also helped promote the game worldwide, establishing many well known clubs and exporting players and managers alike. Just think about how many scots have won league titles in England & in the premiership era have had a near monopoly on the title (while Englishmen are yet to win any)

There's a lot Scottish managers in the top 4 divisions as well.

 

It's just that with all that expertise and opinion, you'd think they might have qualified for the ocassional world cup or Euro championships over the last few decades.

 

Well in the last few decades they have qualified for 2 World Cups and 2 Euro's.. though granted the last was WC1998.
I'd say if you looked at countries with similar populations (around 5 million) then their succes rate would be higher than average.
