Yup, around 15m euros. Not bad for a striker who hasn't scored a league goal for almost a year.

I'll write about Muriel's deal (when it's finished at last) in the transfers thread.

Meanwhile, for those who might be interested and not attending at Vicarage road tomorrow due to distance...
as an appetizer to WFC match, at 1:30 PM (your time) on Udinese Channel streaming (http://udinesecalcio.portals.twww.tv/) there will be the match of our Primavera team against Chievo.
Several strong players will be missing because they are with first team (which is in emergence for injuries, bans, players away for sub20 of Africa cup) but there should be some interesting young players who might end at WFC one of next years.
Given the number of missing players, maybe Armenakas will be playing. I'll let you know.

Interesting picture. "Ingaggio" means how many millions of euros per year that player earns. Scadenza is when they're contracted to (I believe). Highest earning player at Udinese is obviously Di Natale, who's on the equivalent of £19k a week (and Andrews is on 28k at Bolton, da ***?!). Top earning player in Serie A is Dani De Rossi at just under £100k a week. Some of the salaries (not just Udinese players) are a lot lower than I imagined them being (Torres and Cole for instance who were on £60k and 33k per week respectively)

You understood correctly: "Ingaggio" is yearly wages (net after taxes), "Scadenza" as you said.
In general the wages are lower than the past in serie A.
Udinese is at its usual (mid-low) average, but now there are more small teams which are equally careful to avoid heavy wages and even "big teams" try to avoid too heavy contracts or to get rid of the current ones.

Whilst I can't really speak for Udinese fans as i'm obviously not as "in the loop" as sherlock and company are, I feel this letter is a bit harsh. It's along the lines of some posters on here wanting us to buy our own players than getting them from Udinese/Granada in the fact that there's really no point. As the picture above I posted a few days ago, there's very little money in Serie A these days and it's generally a declining league because of it. If you were to pit the Premier League vs Serie A in a position vs position game (so 1st vs 1st, 7th vs 7th etc) I reckon very few Italian teams would come away with points. Italian clubs (bar the obvious 3 or 4) simply cannot afford to match the wages offered by clubs in England/Spain/Germany and as such are suffering as they cannot lure the players across.

I also think the Pozzo model will be less sustainable in the future (maybe forcing Papa Pozzo into forking out more on transfer fees in the future), clubs all round the world are now scouting in the furthest reaches of the world to try and get talent for cheap rather than having to fork out £30m further down the line. Obviously this will cut out the Pozzos as middlemen, adding more competition for youngsters which will ultimately push the cost (of transfer + wages) up. We've already began to see the start of it with Chelsea buying up every 17/18 year old Eastern European who's currently playing over there along with some youngsters from South America, and I can't see it ending anytime soon.

At least the Pozzos have a head start and have experience in doing what every other team will be doing in the next 5 years. Which will only serve them well.

Tl;Dr version: Fans are greedy, don't listen to them Papa Pozzo.

The letter is full of bulls**t, typical of spoiled fans who think we should go buying "big names" and don't realize the money from selling players goes into wages, scouting network, buying several new players and all the costs of normal management. Costs which are certainly NOT covered by the little money coming from Italian TV rights and from the low number of tickets sold at the stadium of a city with 80k inhabitants.
"Fans" like this are not uncommon unfortunately.
You know the kind, like "some" (I won't say the name but you know) on this forum always crying because the Pozzo's don't spend money in transfers.

I figured that was pretty much the case but was interested to have it confirmed by you both. Certainly the payment of huge transfer fees for big names is not in the model for the group nor should it be as this could place the long term future of the clubs at risk and that is something none of us wants to see.

A stable well run smaller club is far better than a badly run big club and when we over achieve we can all enjoy the moments.

Playing with 10 men and currently in penalties with Napoli in the cup

EDIT: Just knocked out on penalties, unlucky

  24. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

Lost, but with a lot to be happy.
Well, certainly not about the ref, because the second pen for Napoli was incredibly soft and all the yellow cards went Udinese's way and there was a possible (not given) pen for us for handball.
But our match was brilliant and even with 10 men we were the best team on the pitch in SH and extra time.
Finally Kone showed some of the brilliance that he seemed to have forgotten in Bologna, and Guilherme was good too.

But most important for the future was the excellent performance of the young ones. I told you already we have quite a bunch of promising good players in our Primavera team.
Due to the emergency for bans/injuries/internationals two of them, Jaadi and Hallberg, played in starting 11 and another, Aguirre (came back from interrupted loan to Empoli) had his debut in SH.
All were very good! But Jaadi in particular was absolutely brilliant!
Watch his counter-attack and assist to Thereau for the momentary 2-1:

WTF! He's just 18 and this was his debut!

Sherlock - do Udinese have a sell on clause for Cuadrado? I see he's close to a move to Chelsea.

Unlikely, they're not particularly common in Italy.

Exactly. AFAIK no sell on clauses, unfortunately.
They are possible but not common in Italy, as JH said.

Decent 2-1 win over Empoli tonight, another red card, it was deserved (sorry Sherlock, leading with the elbow is always gonna be a booking!), but they held on.

  29. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

The second yellow was deserved and Kone was a fool. But his first booking was for kicking away a ball after a FK, after he received countless faults.
And the pen for Empoli was not correct. It was top of the shoulder, not arm.
And there was a pen for us for handball NOT given.
But who cares ... fu** the refs, three points at last, and we are back on left side of table!

I agree about the penalty decisions, referee has had a nightmare there!

Sherlock did Edenilson play any friendlies for Udinese before moving to Genoa on loan? Wonder why the Pozzos didn't think he could do a job for Udinese or Granada (not sure if they've used all their non EU quota without checking), as he's been by far one of the best players on the pitch in the Napoli vs Genoa game.

Edit: Referees had a nightmare in the Napoli game as well, never a penalty.

As you guessed. Extra-EU quota finished with Guilherme and Evangelista.
Next year, coming from a season in an Italian team, Edenilson will not count anymore for extra-EU quota and most likely will be the substitute for Widmer as RWB.
The fact he's doing well at Genoa is good news for the future.

Any idea how Evangelista is doing at the U20 Sudoamericano? Keep meaning to watch some games but they're always on really late and I forget to record them, I see he's played twice so far (with one assist).
