FT 1-1 for a very, very, very dubious/soft penalty for Cesena at 93'.

I have to say Pereyra has been rather good for Corruption FC and was very good in the Superclasico yesterday.

That's good news. Good advertising both toward teams and players.

For teams: honestly, several former Udinese players underperformed after being sold to other teams. If big teams begin to think "Yes they sell players who seem good, but they're only good to play in a minor team" that's bad. If our former players do well even at highest levels the big teams will always be ready to pay the (usually large) sums Pozzo asks. A sort of "Udinese: players' quality guaranteed!" brand. ;)

For players: the example of one like Pereyra, a "late bloomer", a good player but not really a "God-gifted champion" entering Argentina's team is wonderful. Other good players will be more willing to accept to play for us, seeing Udinese as a very good "training ground" to improve their tactics and their skills and a perfect springboard to higher stages.

What's going on with Riera Sherlock?

I noticed he tweeted about thinking where he's going to move to in the next transfer window, someone asked him he won't play for Udinese, and he replied with:

"@settore1982 will you play if they don't pay you in 4 months???"

Well, this IS worrying. AFAIK Udinese never was late in wages, maybe it was written "pay" instead of "play".
We (Udinese's fans) were wondering what was about Riera, but it was thought he had injury.
He still apparently is out of team due to injury, although he played in a friendly between Udinese A Vs Udinese B a few days ago.
But ... a tweet from his official account at Oct. 10th saying "Just thinking on new target from next transfer window...#Russia #Germany #Dubai #Qatar Back to #Turkey... Pensando en nuevos objetivos..." ... well ... that's high treason! The Pozzo's have been quite harsh on players in the past for less than that (and have left them to rot out of team for months) and maybe this explains the fact he's still missing from team even if he was fit enough to play in the friendly.

And up into a CL spot at least until AC play Fiorentina tonight ... will Di Natale ever stop scoring?

  9. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

He must at least score 7 more, to join Baggio at sixth place, with 205 goals, in the all-time-serie-A-scorers table.
Certainly he looks like that could be done soon, seen how he plays.

After 2 bad defeats, today Palermo-Udinese, hoping our team awakens.
Totò Di Natale will be absent due to a minor injury, so hopefully Muriel being in starting 11 will finally show he's worth the expectations.
Talking about Totò: he has currently 199 goals in serie A, 299 goals in professional leagues, 399 matches played in serie A.
I guess scoring a goal in his next match after the international break could be a nice thing to trigger a few celebrations.

1-1 .. a game of missed chances. Palermo's (first) penalty was a travesty, as clear a dive as you'll see and their second was pretty debatable as he just ran into the defender (a good job it was saved).

So it's not just us that gives away cheap possession and needless free kicks towards the end of the game then .. I guess it must be a Pozzo thing as we all seem to do it.

Sherlock - What do you think of Lucas Evangelista? A friend of mine is acting as the Brazil U22s translator whilst they are in China in a tournament and he uploaded a photo of the squad sheet the other day with Lucas Evangelista's name included. Small world eh? Is he any good?

  15. reids

He's only played 80 minutes of football so far. Udinese spent €4m in the summer on him though so they must rate him quite highly.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx_qPJ7AJS8 - great goal!

He's still almost unknown. Had his debut but, as reids said, only for some handful of minutes, not enough to judge him. Needs time to adapt. But I have quite some faith in our scouting network.
It is sort of a novelty for us to have in team a Brazilian who is international (although U21). We have several Brazilians in team but they're mostly little known, without reason. IMHO with a defender like Danilo and a holding midfielder like Allan in team, Brazil might not have won against Germany, but might have had a less humiliating defeat.
Evangelista is only 19YO so I guess he'll have time to blossom. The fact he already had his debut in first team (contrary to Hallberg, Zapata and others of our Primavera team) shows the managar Stramaccioni values him.
    We will see.

This afternoon at 5PM (Italy time) a friendly at Belgrade against Red Star, the team where coach Stankovic began his career and was captain when he was 19YO. He might also play a few minutes with their shirt.
It'll be live on Udinese channel.

We have a lot of players away for the international break or staying at Udine for injuries or just to rest.

    Players:
    GK: Kelava, Meret.
Def: Alhassan, Belmonte, Bubnjic, Bochniewicz, Coda, Domizzi, Faraoni, Pasquale, Wague
Mid: Guilherme, Jadson, Hallberg, Jaadi, Jankto, Pinzi.
    Fwd: Geijo, Muriel, Prtajin, Zapata.

The ones in bold are from Primavera team. A chance to watch them, to see if they're promising.

Faraoni, Geijo... the critics were right all along. Udinese cherry picking our best players :dismay:

  19. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

LOL, Geijo has played 4' this season. Faraoni 0'. This is their chance to convince Stramaccioni they can be worthy team members.
But about the young ones I've put in bold in above post, from all reports they are VERY good. They will not be able to stay in youth team next season (except for the younger ones).
They are too many to play in Udinese first team next season, unless we want to play with an average 21YO team (that's usually not a good idea in serie A).
So, I seriously expect some of them next seasons will play on loan somewhere or, more likely and better choice, will be at Watford.

Udinese-Chievo 1-1. A pity we couldn't mantain the lead, but we didn't play very well honestly and a draw is a fair result.

But today is mostly the day when Antonio (Totò) Di Natale scored his 200th goal in serie A exactly during his 400th match played in serie A.

Oh, also: counting 18 goals in fourth tier, 31 in serie B, 23 in national cup, 17 in European cups and 11 for Italy, its exactly 300 goals in official matches.

Fantastic win over Inter tonight, with a quality goal from Bruno Fernandes (perfect cos I was watching the match to "scout" him for a website I write for): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I96kb1bjACc

Inter were very dominant for the first half, and went in 1-0 up at HT. Udinese came out with a fantastic second half display to win 2-1. 5 points off the CL!

  23. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

An excellent come back after a very dull FH where we only defended and seemed too fearful.
In SH, with nothing to lose being 0-1, the lads found courage, pressed more and went more forward and discovered they could hurt Inter's defence and there was not so much to be afraid as they thought.
Brilliant win and three very important points. Now the table smiles more (and it's only 19 points to the safety level of 40 ;-) ).

If you were scouting Fernandes, you've been lucky to see him yesterday because so far in season he had been quite disappointing. After the huge promises of his first, excellent season in serie A (at only 19YO) he seemed "involved".
The many many roles he's been called to play probably didn't help as this confused the lad. In two half-seasons so far he has been playing as "play-maker", "trequartista", secondary striker, and probably every possible position in midfield and attack. He's very versatile and decent in any position but all these changes can be confusing for a stil growing player.
This season he seemed often "lost", missing passes and not showing enough concentration in atttack.
But in the Cup match with Cesena and yesterday he seemed much better, and in both matches he scored a cracking goal. Still very very promising. For sure a future player in Portugal's midfield IMHO, maybe even in next UEFA EURO 2016.

Indeed, he's been one i've been watching for a while, I watched him for Portugal at the Toulon youth tournament last year, looked one of the best players in the team and hit the bar with an outrageous shot in one game (might have been against England?). I was hoping that the new Portugal manager would call up a bunch of youth players after the horrible World Cup, but it seems as if he's gone the other way and resorted to the older generation (Danny, Ricardo Carvalho, Boswinga all got callups!) and it's not gonna be easy with other talented youngsters like William Carvalho and Andre Gomes along with older players like Moutinho and Danny still around as well. Hoping he gets a chance and takes it though!

I'd be willing to bet that either he or Zielinski will end up at Vicarage Road if we go up... Not sure which one is more highly rated by the Pozzos, but i'd take a stab at Fernandes since Zielinski has gone out on loan.

I think that is 4 goals in 3 years now, potential addition in January?

In reality, I feel for Udiniese if they are having to play him. Surely we could give them back Ighalo or Raneige for the rest of season come next week?

To be fair, Geijo played in starting 11 and played well, with decent quality and good grit. One goal and one (unlucky) post for him.

Edit P.S.: you don't score a goal like this if you don't have some quality as a striker.

Small piece of news: in solar year 2014 Di Natale was top scorer in serie A with 21 goals, above Toni (Verona) and Tevez (Juventus) both at 18.
Also, he still remains in "FourFourTwo's Best 100 Football Players in the World 2014", ranked 51th.
Not bad for an "old" striker! ;)

Other (former) Udinese's players in FFT list: Benatia (91), Cuadrado (67), Sanchez (34).
Not bad for a quite small team of a small city.

Udinese is the serie A team with more players who will be away for at least all January for international duty. Only Badu is usually in starting 11.

    E. Badu (24YO, 14 appearances, 1119' played) will play 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana.
    M. Wague (23YO, had his debut last match playing very well for 90' against Sampdoria) will play 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with Mali.
    L. Evangelista (19YO, had 3 matches, coming from bench, for 98' so far) will play U-20 South American Championship with Brazil.
    A. Zapata (19YO, 1 match, 8' played) will play U-20 South American Championship with Colombia.

I'll try to watch some matches of 2015 South American Youth Football Championship if they're available "somehow".
This to see how Evangelista and Aguirre will play.
But it's also quite likely that among the players I'll see there will possibly more future Pozzo's players.
The tournment will surely be full of scouts from all over the world. Let's hope our scouts find someone special for the teams of the Triad.
