Their contracts say by end of month (which is tomorrow) It would be a REALLY BAD start to the new regime to miss that date - yet they haven't been paid yet.

This 'near the end of the month' stuff is bizarre. Can't imagine any reputable company would have such an ambiguous payment date!

It's not ambiguous at all. Contractually they should be paid by the last day of the month, but they have gotten used to being paid on the 28th. The only ambiguity is Bassini's language, which the Wobby have suddenly decided to quote out of context as a precise statement, when in fairness to Bassini it was undoubtedly an informal comment.

But what I will say is that this situation is entirely of Bassini's making. His reluctance to accept the inevitable is the reason that the takeover took this long. Does anyone here think the Pozzos wanted this to drag on until 36 hours before the transfer window opens?

I would imagine it's just a logistical thing and will be sorted out very quickly, not too good for the staff though as I expect they have bills to pay

I wonder who might be at fault

I'm sure Bob Diamond will be personally blamed before too long.

It's HIS safe, they're HIS keys, so why can't he go in HIS safe?

Maybe the outgoing owners thought they'd leave the June wage bill for the new owners to sort out. Which I'm sure they will.

Alternatively, could the delay just be the Natwest/RBS glitch thingy?
