New forum bugs and issues

I'm having trouble with the links on this site today. Other websites seems to be OK, but every link on here is taking literally minutes to change.

 

Is it still bad now?

I'm assuming you're talking about the internal links on here, not links to other sites such as the quiz?

 

Yes, I meant the internal links, but it's better now.

 

It's just my opinion but the smilies available on quick reply are rubbish.

(I know all smilies are rubbish anyway.....)

 

Admin - whats the traffic been like since the upgrade ? Has there been any drop off or growth ?

 

I just checked December 2010 against December 2011 to compare. Since the upgrade we have stopped a huge number of automated search "bots" that were causing us concern, so I expected a significant decrease in numbers.

December 2010: Unique visitors 19,500, page loads 1.2 million
December 2011: Unique visitors 22,800, page loads 1.4 million

So the answer is we continue to grow. There are still a nice number of new registrations per week, (we don't count the spammers that we delete), and despite an initial drop in posts after the upgrade, the stats show we're on the up. I expect January to be manic again as it always is.

Strangely, ad cl1cks are down by a fair bit. We're still covering the cost of the hosting, software, upgrades and the odd competition, but all forum jollies are cancelled. I don't know if it's the way we've placed the ads in the new setup, or if more people are blocking them, or even if the ads are simply paying less these days. It's dropped since the upgrade, so probably my placement. January is nearly always the highest month for cl1cks, so we'll soon know if the income is in trouble.

 

It's ok Admin i've just clicked the ad, revenue is back on the up!

The ad revenue may be down because you have the facility to hide them or hide the side bar.

Running slow now and just got a 404. Is someone trying to take us off air or is it just the high traffic!?

 

Most likely high traffic, I had the same a day or two ago.

 

I've spoken to the hosts a few times this week regarding speed issues. They're not being much help other than to say we need to upgrade again, which is cr*p as we're already on as high a package as possible without without going dedicated. Amount of traffic is an issue for sure, but it shouldn't be giving memory errors.

 

May I ask how much has site traffic has increased? Were we ever anywhere near going higher than the "most users ever online 1055" ?

 

I saw over 400 once or twice but not as high as 1000. mind you wasnt about at peak times.

 

We'll never get to those dizzy heights again as I've stopped a lot of traffic due to banning bots. They used to add 20%+ to traffic.

Text was blue for me too.

Looks strange without the experience points showing next to the avatars. Looks tidier though on the shorter replies.

ISSUE: X-Tiles in the arcade did not record my score after pressing "done" returned me to the forum homepage without recording. Tried this twice, same result both times. Think it did it on Tetris too. You can tell it's a slow Saturday!

 

Make sure you've got the remember me tick box checked when you're on the arcade page. This is a known issue with the arcade scoring system.

 

I assume you mean the remember me box that shows at login?
I have tried this.

Logged out, back in again, ensuring it is ticked. (It was anyway)

Played X-tiles again, pressed Done, got redirected to www.wfcforums.com/content.php

You're right. After completing a game and sending the score it returns you to the home page. I'll flag it as an issue to the techy peeps.

 

There was a certain fix for the arcade when we use the CMS part of the forum, (the front page stuff). The upgrade overwrote this so the arcade will be a bit buggy for a day or so. As the arcade software will also be upgraded then we will sort this out when it is done.

 

Don't know why that is but I'll look into it soon.

 

Well apart from the security patches the main thing is a new selectable style. Mobile!
