Watford fan for many years. First game was in the 2nd division in 1980, can't remember who against. Favourite memory is Luther strolling towards the clock end at Highbury with the Arsenal back four appealing for a penalty in the 87 FA Cup QF. Worse memories are the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool in 86 and the regular relegation battles and sub-10k crowds of the 90s. Loving the Pozzo era - best owners since SEJ.

    Hi all!

I'm Jacopo, I'm 28 years old and i live in Italy. I'm from a small town 15 miles north from Udine. It's about 10 years that I follow british football. My dream is to become a sport journalist. Since the end of last year I started working for a new website that writes about AC Udinese. They also cover Watford FC and Granada CF. I really don't like italian Serie A anymore so I proposed myself for covering this two categories. I'm here cause I wanna feel from so far away the passion you bring to the team, I wanna get the news before other websites from you all, personally know some of you and create some frienships why not...and most important get the tips for my future flights (the first will probably be in March for Watford vs Stoke). I can get from Udinese some special entrances to the training ground (I've got to interview Ighalo or Abdi) and a pass for the match. That's all! Nice to be here...see you soon!

I'm Larry, and I live America (Arizona). It's hard to say I have a premier league team I support exclusively -- I mean, how do you pick? If you're not sort of born with it, it feels arbitrary, so I find myself following the league year by year and mainly paying the most attention to the US national team players abroad. But I followed Watford when we all though Jay DeMerit was going to be our next great one, and though it didn't quite work out like that I have since become a bit partial to the club. I was happy to see the team promoted last year, and I think one of the stories brewing under the surface this year that nobody seems to be talking about is Watford potentially putting themselves in position for a Europe spot, which would be very nice to see. I've been paying attention to the message board this year, because I have a couple of transatlantic trips planned and I am hopeful to visit Vicarage Road at least once, and you see like a clever bunch not prone to bickering, so I thought I'd join in case I ever have anything interesting to say.

    Greetings Larry.

Last time we had a US member come over for a game Lloyd Doyley scored.

Let us know when you're coming and I'll stick a couple of quid on a Jurado winner.:mengoal:

Doyley scoring was unlikely, not utterly impossible.

I seem to remember Jurado with a wonder goal at some point in the past -- maybe for Shalke in a Europe competition? Never say never.

I think we're going to be at Vicarage Road for the Leicester City game in two weeks. My son has a school break, so we're going to come over to see London, and I was able to buy two single seats for the game during the 30 seconds or so they were available on public sale. The problem is that we land at Heathrow around 14:30. If we clear immigration quickly, it looks as though we may be able to make it if I can figure out a solution for our bags. I'll probably post over on the matchday threads about best ways to grounds, but the current plan is Piccadilly and Victoria lines to Euston, leave bags there, and then Midlands to the grounds. Cab would be quicker, I guess, but then we have our bags and also we flew over using miles and we're trying to do the trip as cheaply as possible and we still have Oyster cards with lots of credit from a prior trip. We may end up missing some of the game, so if they take bookings on scoring by halves, maybe put your money on Jurado to score in the second. ;0)

The Heathrow Express from the airport to Paddington and then the Metropolitan or Circle Lines to Euston would be quicker than the Piccadilly or Victoria Lines, but also more expensive. The Heathrow Express is one of the most expensive rail journeys in the world, measured per mile, but it might be worth it as you're coming all this way!

Thanks for the advice. Looks like an extra 20 pounds versus just using pay as you go on regular services, but I suppose if I means I get to see the whole game it's worth it!

It's going to be VERY tight. Landing on time at Heathrow is a roll of the dice to begin with, so get your a55 off the plane quickly and IF everything goes to plan you might get out of the airport by 3.30pm, and that's an absolute best scenario. I'd honestly say you're looking at 4pm onwards, leaving you NO time to get to London and out to Watford. If you're coming for a game you want to be here in plenty of time to enjoy the build up and atmosphere, your schedule will see you here at half time at best, final whistle at worst.

    Change the flight.

EDIT: Alternatively call a local Watford cab company and get them to pick you up from the Airport and take you direct to the match, be extra nice and they'll probably chuck the bags in their office for a nominal fee.

If I were you I'd try to prebook a cab instead of doing the Heathrow Express, if you're going to pay extra anyway. Door to door, it's not far from Watford at all, worth investigating the cost of an Eagles taxi or something I reckon. If you need any help calling them up from abroad or anything like that just give me a PM and I'll try to help.

Just seen this bit of the above post. This is exactly what I'd recommend, if you want to give yourself the best chance of seeing a decent amount of football. In the scheme of things it won't be that much money either, especially considering your '20 quid extra for Heathrow Express' reaction.

For the record I meant pick you up from the AIRPORT. Heathrow to Watford won't be that much.

Bingo. You want to look at a cab from the airport to the ground if you can. Not far and probably not all that expensive really.

Deffo cab from heathrow direct to the ground. Will be as cheap as public transport. Can someone ofait with Watford cabs give him the number of a reliable company. Give them a ring when you land and they'll be there by the time you get through immigration.

Thanks for all the advice. I think what we'll do is stay the first night at the Hilton hotel right at T4 (much less expensive than central anyway) and drop our bags and cab directly from the hotel. Even if it takes us to 16:00 to clear immigration and walk to the hotel, we should be able to get to the grounds well in time. Sounds like around L30-35 from one of the cab companies. Thank you again.

Don't go to the taxi rank at Heathrow, they wanted £95 to Watford so I got on the underground instead.

I called a company that said they are allowed to take a pre-booking and pick up directly from the Hilton's entrance -- though it sounds like we may have to be willing to hop out once gameday traffic starts to build and make it the rest of the way on foot or pay a supplement for extra time.

Welcome to the forum mate. Ironically I'm going to be in the same situation as you in the next couple of weeks as I'm coming back to Watford from Heathrow on my own. If you're looking for cheap and direct, the best way is the Green Line coach/bus. The number 724 which goes to Harlow leaves every hour at quarter past from Heathrow Airport Central Bus Station and stops in the middle of town centre on Clarendon Road. Only costs £10 as well which is dirt cheap and takes the same time as a taxi would.

Thank you everyone for the advice. We ended up coming on an earlier flight, so had no problems getting to the grounds for the game. I was really impressed with the Watford defense, but a wonder strike from Mahrez was good enough, with all of the Watford chances seeming to go straight at Leicester City's keeper. We were in the SEJ stand closest to the Leicester City supporters, and they were pretty loud the whole game, so it was hard to get a sense of the home ambiance, but I enjoyed the park, and the walk from Watford Junction before the game was fun -- we don't really have grounds here in the states that just sort of rise out of neighborhoods like that and it was memorable. Again, thanks for the advice -- I hope to visit again soon.

Hi all, I am a relatively new fan from the US. Been lurking on the forums for a bit, but never had anything to post. Traveling to the UK tomorrow and attending the match on Sunday. I have the opportunity to sit in the lower Graham Taylor stand (restricted view) or the new north-east corner (SEJ8). Which would you recommend? From what I have read on the forums, neither are ideal. Regardless, I am excited just to be there. Thanks.

    Greetings Mooby.

Some of the GT seats are actually below pitch level. However recent football has not been that entertaining and with decent weather forecast I would expect plenty of spare seats elsewhere in the stand that can be moved to if the view is ****e.

In the corner they'll be less ability to move I would think.

I concur .... if you're on your own go for the GT and then move to one of usually several better empty seats that are dotted around. No one really minds and if people turn up late there will still be other seats ... Sunderland home certainly isn't a must see for many glory hunting season ticket holders that only go to big games.

Sorry for the delay. Just got back to the US a few days ago and was busy with work. I had a great time at the game and spending the day in Watford (wife did too). Seats in the lower GT weren't so bad. Just a bit of trouble seeing the touchline nearest to us. But I really didn't care. However, I don't know how the club can get away with selling seats in row AA. I know they are "restricted view", but it was literally a view of a wall. Felt bad for the people sitting there. The atmosphere was so much better than when I go to a NY Red Bulls match. And I started following Watford because of Jay DeMerit.
