Let's get this started off right for 2011. The Cheerleaderless Super Bowl and Cristina Aguilera's anthem butchering left me down so hopefully this will get us started on the right foot.

Isn't 2011 at risk due to the CBA

Sure is,with the current agreement expiring on march 3.

The last meeting saw the owners walk out, with the following one cancelled.

Apparently players want revenue split 50/50.

I think it will be a rough offseason. Interesting but difficult.

At least we will have this thread...full of cheerleaders.

Collective Bargaining Agreement settled, and the first full day of Pro Football is underway!

The Ravens are entertaining me with putting 14 up on the Steelers in the 1st quarter already at home.

A stirring remembrance of 9/11 kicked things off.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!!

Ouch Colts. No Manning = No W's.

The Titans need to start games better. In the second half today we managed to put up 14 points, the problem was that we were already 10-0 down and the Jags managed to limp over the line 16-14.

Ravens downed by the Titans, sucks to be them.

    You are so ****, we scored a T D.

Yeah, I didn't expect that. Actually, pretty interesting weekend so far. Steelers recover flawlessly against the Seahawks.

Bills overturn a sizable Raiders lead. Detroit proves they aren't a fluke. Colts can't even hang with the Browns without a Manning on the ball.

    Very interesting indeed!

I really enjoyed the Colts/Steelers game... It was a lot testier than the Steelers expected, but the Colts remain winless.

How about those Raiders? Shocked at their success this year.

And the Bills beat the Patriots to stay the only AFC team that's unbeaten?! Who knew?

And the Lions roaring back from 20-0 down to win in OT 26-23?! Who are these guys?

I missed the Packers Bears game, but in the end proved not to be close.

I'm surprised about the Raiders too, they've only been going up since they got rid of Jamarcus Russell.

I knew the Lions were going to come good when they hired Schwartz from the Titans, and good luck to the guy. He was a brilliant defensive co-ordinator for us.

Yes, yes it has. I am giving it up and just watching college football

For some reason, I enjoy watching college football a lot more than NFL. I can't place my finger on it exactly, but I find myself a lot more invested in the games. Maybe it's just being new to the College scene and all that comes with it. Just seems like more scope for upsets etc. Plus it helps that A&M keep throwing away leads and upsetting my Mrs.

It is a little sad that the English focus on NFL and College football is invisible for the most part. The entertainment value is often far greater.

In particular, the 64 team NCAA basketball tournament that caps the basketball season may be the greatest tournament on the planet barring the World Cup, but sometimes exceeding it...and it happens every year.

Hopefully College Football can get their **** together and put on a REAL season ending tournament rather than this BCS crock of cow dung.

There is nothing more electric in my opinion then a night NCAA game. Probably the greatest game I have ever attended was Penn State V. Michigan here in Happy Valley last year, 7 O'clock start, Halloween, and we won which doesn't hurt.

If I had the opportunity to watch NCAA then I would. The problem is that over here we only get 2 NFL games a week on Sky, and I have to watch Titans highlights on NFL.com.

March Madness is awesome. BCS is just about the opposite. I was having a pretty long and drunken conversation on saturday night about it. The Bowl games seem kinda pointless seeing as it's not exactly on merit, just about who will sell tickets. Or at least that is the impression I've made. Correct me if I've understood wrongly.

  31. Fitz

No you aren't wrong. There is some technical explanation for it but in the end, #1 & #2 get matched up, and who cares about the rest of the teams...

It used to be cool...PAC 10 top team plays Big 10 top team in the Rose Bowl. SEC top team plays some other conference in the Orange Bowl, etc... The only drawback is when #1 USC beat #23 Ohio State 21-10 in the Rose Bowl and #2 Florida State beat unranked Texas 42-3 in the Orange Bowl leaving you wondering who was the best team for the year.

In the end, the solution to that bittersweet problem, the BCS, just makes everybody irritated and unsatisfied.

Went to my first college football game this last weekend. Took a trip to College Station for Texas A&M vs Baylor. My mrs is an aggie so we went to meet a load of her friends from college to party and enjoy the game. Absolutely different atmosphere to anything I have ever experienced at a sporting event before. I was actually expecting a bit more of an intense/passionate atmosphere, but I suppose the early kick-off and lack of alcohol in the stadium could have an impact on this. With it being my first football game live, I found it a lot different to watching on TV in terms of my understanding of the game. Being able to see the whole field really helped me get a good perspective on how the whole team works to make space for each play etc. Really enjoyed it. Definitely prefer the college game to NFL.

    Luke,
Funnily enough, I was in Austin all week last week and was reminded about how HUGE football is in Texas. High school football is absolutely huge in Texas, far more significant than HS football is anywhere else. It almost reminds me of English football with all the small non-league sides that a still fairly well supported, almost. I mean I'm certain that there are at least a dozen Texas high schools that draw more than 20,000 people on a Friday night for a Varsity game. How many non-league sides in England draw >20k?

Football in Texas is intense. Seeing how devoted people are to it, it's a wonder FC Dallas or Houston Dynamo ever get anybody to attend.

Anyway, I'm glad you got a chance to see it live. It is pretty fun. I think A&M is famous for the huge bonfire thing, though if I recall correctly there was an accident that may have ended that tradition.

Do try to catch a Texas/Oklahoma game if you can for the spectacle alone...it would be worth the drive to Austin. Other fun ones are Cal/Stanford or USC/UCLA out here in the west. Alabama/Auburn too. Those Bama fans are straight up whack jobs, and like USC fans, 80% never took a college course in their life.

Austin is a great city. I've visited a couple of times and both trips have been memorable for drunken carnage and general good times - lots of very beautiful ladies in that neck of the woods. I've not heard about a big bonfire before, so I am assuming it's a tradition that has been done away with.

I've noticed how mental high school football is in Texas. I can think of at least 4 occasions during the summer when high school kids died from heat exhaustion during pre-season practices. Every friday night, you'll find 4 or 5 channels carrying high school games from around the state and the locals really get into it big. I don't know if you get similar over your way, but it always struck me as a bit mad. I know from talking to friends, they'll often go and watch high school games to check out guys who have committed to their school, to get an early look at them. Suppose it's akin to WFC fans watching the reserve and youth teams play.

I'm getting into college ball pretty well now and have watched a lot of games so far this season. I'll take in a Longhorns game at some point i've no doubt.
