"Robert Pires: Unlikely to be welcome in Philadelphia any time soon."

Former Arsenal man Pires says Philadelphia is "not a beautiful city".

If MLS would stop getting on their knees to fellate every washed up former big name, then the players wouldn't be thinking like this.

I've been to Philly a few times and really like the place, though I have never lived there and not spent much time there in the winter...Pires is just a canut.

    Game over.
    G's win.

I have no idea if any of the normal Boca Jrs players were on the field today, but if they were, it's easy to see why they finished their season in Argieland near the bottom. They had a few good chances in the first half that Saunders and Gonzalez did well to stop, but after that...nothing much.

Magee came on about the 78' and sparked the play that got the goal.

I'm just glad no one got hurt on the Galaxy.

Galaxy at 8-0-2 played the Columbus Crew who are 6-0-2 tonight in a challenge of unbeaten teams. Along with Designated Player Beckham, E. Buddle and Donovan are out playing with the USA. The Crew had two players in Robbie Rogers and Chad Marshall in the USA camp who didn't make the final cut and just made it back in time for the matchup to play alongside Guillermo Barros Schellotto.

    Result:
    Galaxy 2-0 Crew.

G's move on to 9-0-2, 29 points of a possible 33. Great start for the Galaxy...

Thanks Smithy, I had heard about it bu hadn't gotten the chance to see it yet. Good stuff.

With 9 wins, Playoffs are just within reach, and we are only 11 games in!

In MLS, the top 4 teams from both conferences go to the playoffs. Over the last few years, it took a minimum of 10 or 11 wins to get into the post season tournament and a crack at MLS Cup.

    Life is good.
The Beckhamless, Donovanless, Buddleless Galaxy scored 4 in a 4-1 rout of Lukey's Dynamo.

Galaxy are 11-0-2 and 11 points clear of the next closest team.

And Buddle scored two in South Africa today while Herc got 1 himself.

    And Chivas lost.

    Life is good.

I have so far supported Toronto in the MLS being the only Canadian team but now the proper home of football in Canada has arrived (family live in BC), i will be signing up as a Whitecaps fan.

They are going to play in a temporary stadium aren't they when the old BC Place get's updated? I assume this means artificial turf again then?

Yes, probably so...the Canadians seem fearful of the expense and hassle of real grass, and it sort of makes sense given the severity of the winters, but even Toronto has scrapped the turf and put real grass in now. I imagine the final home of the 'caps will eventually have grass in it.

I am very excited about the addition of teams in the Pacific North West: Seattle, and now Portland and Vancouver. The teams have history, love to play one another and have a ready made hate which brings excellent rivalries to the league.

The Canadian connection is great too. TFC will probably play some great matches with the Whitecaps, as well.

I know the Whitecaps and Timbers have a good rivaly so should be good. Isn't there strong rumours that Montreal will join MLS as well? Should provide a good derby with TFC if they do!

Yes, I may be wrong, but I think the Impact's inclusion is a done deal already. 2012 entry if I recall correctly.

Just has a look, yes they join in 2012. Looks like there are quite a few more other in the future who want to join like another Florida franchise and perhaps a 'new' New York Cosmos? At least anoither 8 teams could perhaps join in the next decade, if the USA get another World Cup, I am sure the market would be there, would it be Fitz?

There is always a large market for soccer in the states. I think the 1994 World Cup may still be the most lucrative ever. The US market has a lot of interest in soccer, but that comes from people who aren't the stereotypical US resident: Mexican immigrants, European immigrants, foreign residents, etc...

The true test of success of soccer in America is whether or not MLS is viable, in my opinion, and how it stacks up against the top flight US sports, baseball/basketball/football. Soccer is challenging hockey for the fourth spot, but it is not there yet.

if only the whitecaps weren't incapable of scoring goals in normal play...

on a side note fitz, how is the ronaldinho thing being received. he's been drunk for the last 3 years and isn't getting any younger/better/soberer

  21. Fitz

    Fitz Squad Player

Most folks can't believe it, understandably.
Those that do are simply excited to have a a finisher and creative talent like Ronaldinho's playing with the Galaxy. The G's have a very young team and it's exciting to imagine his skills rubbing off on the youngsters.

LARS tends to be pretty cynical and we are mostly focused on whether his partying skills or football skills will be more impacting on the young guys.

They better write a no/limited partying clause into his contract.

When the white caps join we will only be the 3rd worst team in the league yay

Isn't that your 1st defeat of the season Fitz? Never mind I expect you are still top of the league though?

Also who are RSL? We don't know the shortened names for your league teams over here.

I'd like to wish you better luck on Saturday, for the big one, but that would be un-patriotic, wouldn't it ;)

So shall we just say, may the best team win :)

RSL indeed means Real Salt Lake. RSL beat the Galaxy in penalties for the MLS Cup last year up in Seattle...

You are correct, Galaxy are still top of the league. RSL are a very well-playing team and the Galaxy were lucky to only have one goal, totally offsides though it may be, scored against last night. Unlike year's past, the Galaxy have gotten a fair few calls fall in our favor, so I guess that's how it goes.

    Could be any minute now...
I still think it's likely to be a Ronaldinho announcement, though Raul's name has been coming up, too. I hope it's not just a friendly with CF Indios de Juarez or something...

I like it. Also - (if we're looking at players who have once played at a club) Lyngby - 1 goal :D
