    Gotta have a goal...
Barack Obama's was to be President of the USA, and that seemed pretty far fetched even 12 months ago.

I saw a news report on Youtube reporting the signing of, and i quote, "English Soccer legend Darren Huckerby, who played for the Nor - Nor - Nor - Nor Fork Norwich, He's a soccer legend and he's signed for...."

    It was comedy genius.

Being knowledgable about soccer doesn't get you jobs on television here. If an American News Channel has any coverage of soccer, it's usually by someone who has ZERO knowledge of the game. Most football news here is actually covered by the very very minor FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) which comes out of Fox Canada and uses Sky's feeds. There is game coverage on other channels, but no TV news source in the US has any expertise on soccer. So no, it doesn't surprise me a bit.

If it's still that way in ten years, the Beckham thing failed.

LA's defense is the worst in the league. Much less renowned teams have far better defense. Generally American soccer players are better defenders than attackers. Still, players like JP Angel and Landon Donovan demonstrate repeatedly that speed and soccer IQ can overcome the athleticism of MLS defenders.

Hey, West Ham must be really shtty because the MLS All-Stars beat them.

European team bids for Edson Buddle:
It's Norway's Rosenborg, but he'd make ton more money there than here int he MLS.

Also, there has been a rumblings about Lando moving to Europe again at some point.

Donovan addresses rumors of Europe move
He sounds hungry, doesn't he? How can any team in the Premiership resist? If he goes, I hope it is to Spain or Italy.

MLS Allstars 3 West Ham 2.

A good result if you ask me, looked like WHUFC put out a strong side.

Gomez's goal was a good move. Good on the MLS

    Yeah, definitely.

Ashton's first was also a very good finish.

4-0 loss to Dallas. It wasn't even close, and not only did our new defender Edward Dominguez out of the Argentine league suck balls, but keeper Steve Cronin was even worse than usual. Unfrigginbelievable. A truly pathetic performance.

This sucks. Twice in a year now!

It's not over yet, but unless we get to winning nearly every home game from no to the end of the season, we will have a tough time making the playoffs.

Not making the playoffs is analogous to being relegated...and needless to say would indicate a season of failure.

Where has your bad form come from?? is beckham to blame or is t ruud??

This year, the top 8 teams in the whole league make playoffs. It used to be 4 from the West and 4 from the East so that just meant we had to worry about Western losers only...now we gotta be top 8...and the East is stronger.

About Ruud, I don't think he's on the hotseat yet. I think he's done fairly well at tooling an offense that can absolutely explode on teams, but 'the suits' haven't done well about getting players that can fit into the salary cap. These same suits, Alexi Lalas, Paul Bravo, and Tim Leiweicke, have made some of the most hare brained trades over the last 3 years. We have possessed a TON of talented young guys which were traded away for little or nothing. We had two massively talented MLS goalkeepers, traded for bupkus, now we are stuck with a very nervous looking frightened cat in the pipes. Our defenders are miserable, save young Sean Franklin. We need a left mid that can take some of the pressure off the defenders, too.

Ruud can't seem to crack that issue, and that is my one major criticism of the guy. FC Dallas has a terrible defense, yet they held us to a doughnut yesterday. Why can't Ruud teach his terrible defenders to do the same?

If the AEG (the company that owns the Galaxy, and the LA Kings and the Staples Center, and part of the Lakers) suits can't get defensive help for Ruud, I can see him tossing in the towel.

With regard to Beckham, he still plays well, but he never shoots...other MLS midfielders take and make shots that Beckham always passes to his teammates on. I understand he is the passing magician, and that's why he was brought here, but christ man...TAKE THE SHOT WHEN GIVEN IT! It's getting to be a sore point with me.

The salary cap is quite restricitve, so we really have no room to buy additional players. My solution is to trade away the third DP Carlos Ruiz (salary $325,000 against the cap) and acquire a big MLS star caliber left midfielder like Shalrie Joseph (NER), and spend the other $100k on a quality young defender like Michael Parkhurst (NER), and then our keeper won't look so crappy.

If we had that left mid all season, we'd have 9-12 more points by now. Grrr.

Any thing new on the donovan to europe. Also i heard some things about buddle to europe?

  22. Fitz

I think the "Donovan to Europe" rumor was a contract negotiation placement strategy. He won't go unless the offer is massive. It won't be massive...

Haven't heard anymore about E-Bud either, but I doubt the MLS would let that one happen. He won't get enough value for MLS to let it go through.

thanks.. i never really understood the mls transfer rules.. they have the only real say in where some one goes.. all it does is make the good players unhappy

The gist of it is that the League owns all the contracts for all the players in the MLS. That explains a lot of the trades that on the surface don't make sense: the league makes them happen for their purposes...those purposes may include balancing the parity of the teams in the league or maximizing revenue by getting a big draw to a big city. That really hasn't worked out very well in NY, by the way.

It is really quite heavy handed as fans from other countries start to realize rather quickly.

It's the weekend at long last...Sunday, our game is at noon, so instead of just-a hanging around the house and watching it on the sofa, I'll be riding my bike from my house in Torrance down Torrance boulevard about 2-3 miles until I reach the beach in Redondo, and then go north another mile or two up The Strand right along the beach until I get to Hermosa Beach.

In Hermosa, George Best, while he played here in LA for the LA Aztecs in the old NASL, opened a pub he ran for a while which lingered on after he passed. 'Besties' finally was sold on and became 'The Underground', still an English flavored pub frequented by ex-pats for a fair selection of British popular brews and lots of TV's which makes it great for early weekend football games carried live on Setanta or Fox. It's also close to the meat markets in Hermosa where boys and girls with fake id's gather to get drunk and find Mr or Mrs ' Right (now)'. I am way way too old for those places, and so are you if you are 26 or more.

So, a couple dozen of us Galaxy fans will meet there and drink some afternoon beer, watch the match, then head over to the beach for some quality time on the sand in the surf which is just now warm enough to swim in...

    So Cal football supporter's life...

Not a patch on walking through the Harlequin, getting a three pack at Chicken Spot, watching **** for 90 minutes and then on to one of Watford's famous nightlife locations.

The only commonality is the 90 minutes of football that makes you scratch your head and ask "why?"...

What is this Chicken Spot of which you speak?

Chicken Spot is a very poor man's KFC, the chicken is of an even lesser quality and suprise suprise it's dirt cheap, there's worse though, along Market Street there's a ghastly place called 'XFC' (that's right XFC), a simply astonihsing rip off of KFC and chances are their 'chicken' is probably pigeon.

How dare you! Chicken Spot is great for a multitude of reasons:

    1. It's but a twenty second walk from the ground.
    2. It's cheap.
    3. There is rarely many people there.
    4. It's bloody beautiful stuff.

And there's a real charm in somewhere that proudly exclaims on its fornt door that it has been offically rated 2 out of 5 of cleanliness.
