Dear, oh dear - Ashton's 'commercial sense' knows no (comedy) bounds .........

I predict a poor attendance (for the Division leaders), as what 'occasional supporter' is going to be foolish enough to spend thirty sovs getting neck-ache, when there's European Cup football live on the box for nowt?

Where did we recruit the 'financial wizards' at our club - from the Treasury of Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe?

Come a big cup game and you will be screaming that you are Watford through and through and moaning that you can't get a ticket, Ok so it's a midweek game, and it's a bit steep but to come on here saying you would rather watch European football on the telly than watch YOUR team at home, sounds like the talk of a glory hunter. :dismay:

I agree with Bogsider, £30 is a heck of a lot of money for a game of football at Watford. Why is there a 20% surcharge to pay on the day of the game?

I have a season ticket so get the best VFm, but I was about to go to the ticket office and get a ticket fopr my Girlfriends Dad. I am now thinking twice.

    £20 would have been about right ... £25 at a push !!!

Least it will cut down the booing when Hendo gets pulled off by Ady :]]

Agreed, £20 is more than enough.

Hairysprog try actually reading what I posted dopey - thus I'll type very slowly, so that you can keep up, dear.

The 'gist' revolves around the 'lack of enticement' to the casual fan of charging such a high price, when there is far better fare on the telly, for free.

As for getting tickets for cup games etc, there's no need to worry your little self ..... I always get one, often to the exclusion of pompous, self righteous cuties, such as yourself!

I think Tranmere are charging £5 for anyone under 23 tonight at home v Crewe - ucking rip off;) - agree with Boggy - its ludicrous to be charging £30 on the night with all the temptations of home viewing.

possibly no more than 14,500 tonight. That would be 2k down on average so far.

Scunthorpe next - real stadium, real footie. Hotel booked.

£30 buys you a few crates of beer to watch the Champions league tonight.

Ucking £30? I agree with Boggy and paddington, there will be loads of empty seats tonight.

I for one am not prepared to pay £30 to watch tonight's game. I have to work unfortunately, but that is a joke to ask someone to pay that much...

    - It's a midweek game.

    - Sheffield Wednesday?! I would understand if it was Man Utd or a Prem team, but come on, Wednesday aren't exactly good are they?

Compared to two seasons back when we were last in this division, it was about £20.00 to see the bigger teams at home, games like this cost about a tenner - £15.00 max. And what happened to the "family days", when kids got in for a fiver and adults a tenner?

And the Open Fun Day, we used to have every season? What happened to that??

Premiership footy has got to this club's head at business level, £70 for me and my family to watch this game is absolutely unacceptable for a lower division match on a tuesday night.

agree with bogsider and paddy. i understand the incentive to 'book early' as Fred Pontin used to say but there has to be common sense and flexibility to match the circumstances. £20 for games like this and you got another 2000 or so buying programmes, food and drink.

£30 is a **** take. Buy in advance then if you dont want to pay it.

  12. bogsider

    bogsider Reservist

Errrmmmm - the whole point being, the 'casual fan' doesn't buy in advance ........ they decide at the 'last minute'!

Then they see the price and bugger off .....

Probably explains why we hardly ever have a full house?

At least it's not 'kids for a quid'...that would really do my head in!

£30 is outrageous to watch two sh*t teams.

I always thought Watford were usually very fair with their pricing for matches...this proves otherwise.

  14. cazgoodwin66

    cazgoodwin66 Forum Tall Person

well the "logic" behind it is to get fans to buy in advance , maybe a question to bring up at the fans forum.

  15. Bubble

    Bubble Wise Oracle

Not having a go at you Caz, speaking rhetorically here...but surely the reason people pay on the night is because they don't know if they can get to the game due to work commitments and the like? Therefore people can't book tickets if they're unsure of whether they can attend.

Bumping up the ticket prices on the night/day of the match just puts people off more.

I'd rather work at the moment anyway than watch that shower of s**t.

I can understand that situation , fair enough £30 is daylight (or should i say night time) robbery. I would not pay that for tonights game. But for someone to pay on the gate as the cant be botherd to buy online or ring the ticket office then its their own fault for paying the extra money.

Odd as it sounds I think that's the prevailing theory in football now. If you know how many fans are coming you know how many programmes to print, how many pies to order, how many turnstiles to open etc etc, thereby cutting back on costly and perhaps unnecessary wastage. The thought of course being that if someone really wanted to go they would buy in advance anyway. There must be something backing this up because a lot of football clubs have introduced it in recent years: either the savings are spectacular or the numbers who don't turn up as a result are insignificant. On a more localised note I think the reason the surcharge has jumped up to £5 this season at Watford is that they want to have the new turnstile system running as smoothly as possible. The less pay-on-the-door types the better from that perspective.

Doesn't mean from a simple 'more support = better' it makes the slightest bit of sense.

Whatever way you spin it, £30 is outrageous.

Didnt Charlton hand out free season tickets when they were relegated (or did I imagine that?)

Sure the club has got to charge sensible prices but £30 for a night game against a team only just promoted from League 1 is diabolical.

14000 crowd and no more.... to think of all those posts where I critisised the capacity of the ground when its eventually redeveloped. I am beginning to think we should have built more flats.

You want to make your mind up if you are loyal watford or a casual fan mate, as for getting your cup tickets to my exclusion, I guess thats probally because of your "nice boy" connections I remember a post on here from you about "someone" shagging a pop star when Elton brought Kiki Dee into the old supporters bar, at he time I thought it was you bragging about slipping Kiki Dee one, I guess it was actually the other pop star. Is that why you referred to me as "cutie"?
Maybe the name Bogsider relates to your liking for hanging around beside public toilets.

Why didn't you simply buy your ticket in advance or were you just looking for an excuse not to go? As we won maybe you are a jinx and should stay away more often.
How much money did you spend in the pub by the way £30 approx by any chance?

It appears to me that the club cant win.
Everyone was demanding decent signings but these guys have to be paid decent wages and if that means paying £30.00 for an evening match then so be it. 15,473 supporters are obviously the majority who will support the club irrespective of what might be on the box. If the other few thousand want to be couch potatoes thats fine by me and look forward to seeing them turn back up again for the premiership.

Who has complained over the last 5 years that we have been one of the cheapist clubs in the top 2 divisons to watch?

You cant moan if we dont buy quality players and pay their wages if ya not gonna help the cause, both go hand in hand.

    Whats the problem?

    10 beers in a pub = £30-00

Errrrmmmm - Prem money, parachute payments, television fees for Championship matches, sale of Ashley Young/Bouazza etc etc should mean up to £40 million in the bank ...... hardly skint are they?

English football fans are mugs, hence they get ripped off ..... season tickets @ Barca/R Madrid and all the top Italian clubs are a fraction of what Watford charge .......

But hey ho, I'm a shareholder ...... keep emptying your pockets into the business located in Vicarage Rd.

I'm going to have a word in Simpson's shell-like and see if a dividend can be sorted out for the 'owners' of this cash rich well, that so many gormless lemmings continually throw their hard earned down.

PS. The Directors and shareholders of Watford Leisure Plc hold all their 'supporters' in the highest contempt .... oops esteem, and (in)sincerely cherish your continued support (smirk).

I agree £30 to watch Watford play is a fair price on a weekend when demand may out strip supply , but when it's a midweek game and the club knows that it's not going to sell out you would think that it would have done more to encourage people to buy the tickets in advance. Why not reduce them to £17.50 in advance midweek to ensure a sell out . Not like all of the home games are midweek is it

  35. watford_away

Irrelevant of what day the game is being played, £30 to watch Watford play is a disgrace, let alone when you are playing the team second from bottom.
