Confirmed. Vital missed out on this one:]] http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~1056888,00.html
He turned down improved terms. Leicester offered him a 3 year contract - maybe we couldn't match that? http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~1054655,00.html
Aidy had already said he wanted a new full back so maybe expected Chambers to leave? I don't think it is much of a blow, he was never a first team player really and only played a lot because he was versatile (now we have more players we don't need that type of player). I would have like him to stay but we still have 2 good Championship full backs in L.D and A.M and hopefully we will sign another full-back who can play mainly on the left but also on the right in emergencies. Good luck to him anyway, Leicester probably offered him more chance of first team football (i think even with their improved finances we could match that now).
Agreed. Did well in the Prem so is a good utility player in the Championship. However, I think that the lure of more regular football tipped the balance - I don't think he would have started for us next season. I was told to expect two bits of business this week - I hope the second one is a decent buy but what are the odds?
I felt he was one of the main reasons we went up the other year, bringing him in to the side and getting rid of Eagles galvanised the team. Ater the 2-0 loss to Milwall I had concerns but he came in through the play off and deserved his day at the Millenium stadium. I didn't think he was Prem quality but then again either were the majority of our squad, definately a good champinship player and the best right back we had at the time (Mariappa will be better in time). No-one is going to turn down a 3 years contract in today's climate and so good luck to the bloke. Will certainly be a returning former player who gets a light clap when he comes back (followed by a chorus of boos and who are ya if he puts in a crunching takle first minute!)
good luck to him a mistake to lose him as was a good utility player but first team football is what he wanted and we couldnt offer that to him
A good championship player but not good enough for the premiership. JC was always going to find things difficult under aidy. Neither a natural right back nor right winger, I think JC would be perfectly suited for a role as wing bacl in a 3-5-2. But his defending abilities were never going to be good enough for us this season and neither was his forward play. As others have said - he always seemed a decent fella, and I hope he'll be given a good reception at the Vic - he is part of Watford folklore having scored that weird goal in Cardiff. I wish him all the best.
Good solid player who I'm sure we will miss in the CCC. On the plus side Right Back is probably one of the easier positions to fill however it's a shame that he is leaving.
Not sure if hes a player that we have to replace as we have Doyley,Mariappa, and Osbourne who could turn out to be good.
Shame to see him go,always liked Chambers, but as soon as he went to Cardiff on loan then I knew it would be the end for him. I believe AB can still sign someone better than him but being a utility player in the CCC is something we could have done with. Will be missed.
http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~1054655,00.html last paragraph, how can our 'official' website get it so wrong
Sums the website up. I seem to remember him actually scoring the second goal. Surely it would not be too much to ask to get this fact right!:dismay:
Certainly James Chambers's goal. Seriously, I think it will be our loss to see him move to Leicester. He was a good player for us in the Championship and as it has been said, he really was part of the team that went up. No discredit to him that he couldn't cut it in the Prem since I think that goes for most of the players in the team. Still, the new season is still a while away and we should expect some new faces. Hopefully the ones coming in will give us more hope than the disappointments of the ones going.
:dismay: good player, but at least we have marriappa and doyley, i think all 3 are about the same level
yes read the article-it was nothing a solid player who was always reliable a good player for the CCC but as already meantioned his own downfall was how verstile he was as he didnt specialise in one area so he will struggle to command a starting place in our team
May not have been as solid but at least chambers could play football. Was hoping to see the team evolve a bit, but looks like its Hoofball again. HoHum
It's very good thing that Aidy keeps releasing players who simply aren't good enough. Not that James Chambers wasn't useful on a good day, he could always be slotted into the team and you would never even notice. In some way, that was exactly his problem - he just didn't make a difference. He was definitely best as a right back, simply because you can get away more with being "solid" or "average" in that position. As a winger, though, he wasn't good at all. Not that he did anything wrong either, but... when you saw James Chambers in the starting XI as a winger you just knew that we had to rely on whoever played on the other wing to run at opponents and get crosses in. The best example of Chambers' mediocricy this season came against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Chambers was starting as right winger and boy were we going to storm them! We all know what happened, and when you think about that particular match I bet the last thing you think of is James Chambers. In fact, I bet many of you didn't even remember that he started that game as right winger and was substituted after 77 minutes - I certainly wouldn't remember, if it wasn't for the fact that _that_ was when I realized that players like Chambers had to leave if we are ever going to be more than poor little Watford in the Premiership. Perhaps I'm being cruel to James here - after all I don't remember him doing anything wrong. I don't have any mental flashes of horrible passes, like I have with Doyley, or nightmares of conceeding senseless penalties, like I have with DeMerit. But I do remember the huge disappointment I felt every time I saw him in the line up or every time he came on as a substitute. So, good luck James - I'm sorry but you won't be missed by me.
