I notice on News Now there's a link to a story about Watford having a £5.6 Million deficit as a result of our promotion. This being almost double the amount the same time last year (June). That doesn't bother me as such because I expect the players to get good bonuses for their fantastic achievement. What is concering however is the line at the bottom of the article that says: "The announcement leaves manager, Aidy Boothroyd with little room for manoeuvre to add to his struggling squad when the transfer window reopens in January." I thought there were funds avaliable? If there aren't then surely splashing the cash in January will be very risky, especially if we head back to the fizzy pop league in May. Here's the link to the whole article: http://www.watford-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=309923 Apologies if people have already read the numerous articles on this, but the point I want to open up for discussion is, is it worth spending big in January and hoping for the best? In my opinion we should just buy one or two solid players and see how it pans out.
I agree, we should get a couple of players in in January, notably a striker but we shouldn't break the bank for them.
As far i recall GS was adamant that Aidy had a decent about of money to spend. got to look at it as an advance from next years increased premiership pot. its imperative we stay up.
its the gamble whether you risk paying money for players to keep us up or if not we go down and in debt.
you play poker? you never win anything without a calculated risk. i would say we're holding 4 to an outside straight, well worth the bet. All in!
The deficit does not include monies still to be paid this season from SKY and no doubt we will show a profit next year .
