From what i've heard, the day after his scorcher against manure we made an enquiry..... Southend said they'd allow us to talk to freddy but put a price tag of 5 mill on him. We offered 2.5 mill rising to 3.5 mill but Southend told us to shove the offer where the sun don't shine!
I would take a punt on pikey boy, but not at stupid money. Its a big step up, but look at Doyle from Cork to the premiership, that was superb business by Reading.
OK... sorry wasnt doubting what you were saying i was just trying to establish how good a source it had come from. I am a little sceptical when it comes to some rumours that start with.. "From what I have heard" for obvious reasons.
What are you basing this "not good enough" opinion on exactly? So Preston are flying high, could go up and you think they would sell an under 21 international to us, furthermore would he come to us, i doubt it!
he has just been granted to permission to stay in his caravan for a few more years apparently so he would require a new site near watford to live in if he did move. the only caravan site i can think of near watford is a little place up the M1 called Luton. Would not pay more than 2.5million for him. i think they have colchester away this week which could be a big decider on them staying up this year, hopefully a few loses could mean we could get him in jan a little cheaper would rather see what west ham do now they have a bit of cash and try and get carlton cole and sherringham off them in jan/
southend fans to wayne rooney: "you're just a fat freddy eastwood" agree with matimbers, would rather see us sign somebody who is already playing in the prem. if we do sign him , it will takes him a month or so to adjust to the prem like the rest of our team, and by january that is too long
I think he's a little over rated. A good player no doubt, scored a lot in league one but its only because of his freekick against united that everyone is talking about him in the prem.
I had this discussion regarding Nugent with someone tonight. Nugent is a NW Lad and is settled there. Other teams reportedly interested in him include Everton and Wigan. Is he gonna travel 200 miles to play for us? Price tag, wages etc are pointless discussions if he's not interested in coming.
Looks like we've chosen not to! Southend said 4.5 mill, take it or leave it.... glad to see the board/aidy have seen better options
It's called telling a team to fark off and go elsewhere while telling the player they negotiated a reasonable price but the other team are to tight etc
Eastwood is a good player but i would rather get a experenced striker who has played in premier league before but if we could get eastwood in for a small sum of money go for it.
I heard Eastwood's been unable to hit a barn door since manure. That should bring the price down. Don't know if it's true as I don't follow sarfend, but there was a caller on the radio moaning about their league form.
I think we need good young players who have the potential to do well in the Premiership, but if the worst happens and we get relegated, we know they are capable of performing in the Championship and they wont demand to leave. Think players like Eastwood are therefore good options, he's only 22/23? I wouldn’t pay more than £1.5 mil though, if that isn’t enough then I think there are plenty of other options out there. I think Southend will go down (bottom of the league), and they might want to cash in.
This is the latest on the net: Website 1: Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd is chasing Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood. Hornets assistant boss Keith Burkinshaw watched the striker in action against Wolves on Saturday. The Mirror says the Premiership strugglers will make a £2million bid for Eastwood when the transfer window reopens next month, though Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on the player who lives on an Essex gypsy camp. Website 2: Freddy Eastwood is a transfer window target for Watford who are keeping close tabs on the £2million-rated Southend hitman. Hornets assistant boss Keith Burkinshaw was at Roots Hall on Saturday to make a personal check on Eastwood, who leapt to national attention following his stunning goal against Manchester United in the Carling Cup. But Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd knows all about Eastwood - who has scored 55 times in 110 appearances for the Shrimpers - and is said to live on an Essex gypsy camp. Boothroyd is looking to boost his side's firepower after last season's top-scorer Marlon King was ruled out until May with a knee injury. And he may be keen to make an early bid for Eastwood, who is attracting plenty of interest and may boost his price-tag further if he impresses against Tottenham in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
Eastwood is not worth the £5 million that Southend are reported as wanting for him. Even his manager states he shows great promise but is `still a little green`. For that money we want someone Golden! Nugent however is a class player, has played with Ash in the under 21s and may want to taste the good life in the south to escape from that harsh northern weather. Preston won`t want to sell as it will probably kill their promotion hopes - so it will be interesting in January.
